The historic district of Cumana has several interesting sites beyond the traditional ones most visited by tourists, such as Castle San Antonio of the Eminencia and Basilica of Santa Ines. Among these alternative places is Square Cantaura, located at the entrance to the Department of Culture of the state Sucre.
I usually spend quite a bit of time there when I attend events organized at the Ramos Sucre House, which is located across from this plaza. It is a very peaceful place, ideal for conversation while enjoying a privileged view of the most emblematic sites in this area.
This square has also been the setting for art exhibitions, street theater, the Book Fair, and various presentations when events are held as part of Cumana of Yesteryear. The mural that adorns this place is usually modified according to the promotions of Unearte, an institution that has several rooms located in the Department of Culture.
As can be seen in the photos, there are well-kept gardens, green areas with trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants. It also has the ruins of Castle Santa María of the Cabeza in the background, a colonial fortress that was affected by the 1797 earthquake, which is why it is only partially visible.
Although Square Cantaura seems to be overshadowed by other larger public squares nearby, such as Bolivar, Pichincha, Rivero, and even the recently built Square Santa Ines, this space is more discreet and quiet, ideal for reading or chatting without distractions, while the bells of the basilica announce the passing of the hours.

El Casco Histórico de Cumaná posee varios sitios interesantes, más allá de los tradicionales y más visitados por los turistas como lo son el Castillo San Antonio de la Eminencia y la Basílica de Santa Inés. Entre esos lugares alternativos está la Plaza Cantaura, ubicada en la entrada del Gabinete de la Cultura del estado Sucre.
Por lo regular suelo permanecer allí un buen rato, en las ocasiones que acudo a las actividades que se organizan en la Casa Ramos Sucre, la cual está al frente de esta plaza. Es un sitio muy tranquilo, ideal para conversar mientras se tiene una vista privilegiada de los sitios más emblemáticos de este sector.
Esta plaza también ha sido escenario de exposiciones artísticas, de teatro callejero, de la Feria del Libro y de varias presentaciones cuando se realizan eventos enmarcados en la Cumaná de Antaño. Por lo regular, el mural que adorna este lugar es modificado de acuerdo a las promociones de la Unearte, institución que dispone de varios salones ubicados en el Gabinete de la Cultura.
Como se aprecia en las fotos, se presentan unos jardínes bien cuidados, áreas verdes con árboles, arbustos y plantas ornamentales. También tiene de fondo las ruinas del Castillo Santa María de la Cabeza, fortaleza colonial que resultó afectada por el terremoto de 1797, por tal razón solamente es visible de manera parcial.
Si bien la Plaza Cantaura parece relegada ante la presencia de otras plazas públicas cercanas más grandes como la Bolívar, la Pichincha, la Rivero o inclusive la reciente Plaza Santa Inés, este espacio es más discreto y silencioso, ideal para leer o conversar sin distracciones, mientras las campanas de la basílica anuncian el paso de las horas.

Hola @saavedraa, esta plaza es interesante,la conocí por casualidad durante unas diligencias por la calle Sucre y por coincidencias leí el cartel, no podía creer que la plaza estaba allí y no la había visto, definitivamente hay que prestar atención a los detalles.
