Short visit to Rome, Italy

in Worldmappinyesterday (edited)

Hello everyone.
While traveling you have to use your time wisely and be prepared for anything. Past weekend we were traveling to the Bucharest, Romunia. We had one stop in Rome and around six hours window that we could see the city. We were aware of possibility but we did not plan the visit to the city until our arrival in Rome. We did our research and via train went to the city. It was my first time in Rome.

We saw Colosseum, Vittoriano and Forums along Via dei Fori Imperiali road.

First look at Apennine mountains in Italy. Such incredible sight. My friend took photo - windows seat.

After we arrived in Rome Fuimicino airport we agreed to go to the city. We went straight to the train. Train goes to Rome Termini train station.

This is express train and it takes around 30 minutes to the Roma Termini train station.

After we arrived at Rome Termini station we started our exploration. There was nothing prepared or planned. We asked for direction to the city center and started to explore the Rome.

When you walk around buildings are like history tellers.

With their facades and details buildings are so peaceful. As you walk down the road you dont know what to expect and these old buildings just appear in front of you. Perfect city exploring.

Souvenirs along the road are waiting for you.

And as we crossing the road we saw Colosseum at the end of this street.
Of course we changed our route and went straight for the Colosseum.
It was such nice surprise to stumble upon.

Construction of Colosseum started in year 72 and finished in 80 year. This makes Colosseum 1924 years old. Such a unique landmark. When you think of Rome it is one of the first thing that comes to your mind.

The road that goes from Colosseum on the right is called Via dei Fori Imperiali and it goes from here to the Piazza Venezia. Along this road there are several public squares or Forums. These are Forum of Trajan, Forum of Augustus and Forum of Nerva .

This is Via dei Fori Imperiali road.

On both sides of the road are many historical buildings and places.

This is Forum of Nerva or Forum Transitorium. Forums are public squares.
It is finished in year 97. Form of Nerva is on the right.

There are so many details.

This is Forum Augustus or Foro di Augusto. It is one of the Imperial fora of Rome. Imperial fora of Rome is set of public squares built over one and a half century. Its construction was complited in year 14 by Augustus.
It is so interesting to see so many historical buildings at one place. Remains of these public squares so interesting.

Along these Forums there are several archaeological excavations.

This is Trajan's Forum. It is last Imperial Fora built in ancient Rome. It was built in 112. When you are here you just keep getting surprised by these historical buildings. Such pleasant history walk.

This is Vittoriano or The Victor Emmanuel II National Monument. Built in 1935 to honour Victor Emmanuel II, first king of unified Italy.

It was built in symbolical center of Rome. It is across Piazza Venezia.
Interesting building for sure. It was getting dark so photos were not that much good.
Here we split into two groups and continued to explore more of the city.
Eventually we come back to Roma Termini, ate something and headed back to the airport.

But first coffee on the Roma Termini train station. Lovely library inside the train station.
It was nice visit to Rome. We used our time wisely and did our best to see city as much as we can. As traveler you have to be ready to grab these opportunities. I am aware that this is a only small portion of city Rome and its history but it is good start. Such beautiful place to visit.

After short brake we continued our journey to Bucharest.

Some photos from Bucharest.
This is The Palace of the Parliament or House of the Republic. It is third largest public building in the world.
When you are here you become aware of its size.
It was built between 1984 and 1997. It was designed by Anca Petrescu and approximately 700 architects worked on this building. It has 12 floors and 1100 rooms. 48 meters of building are visible and 15 meters are underground.
So many number that can not prepare you to see it from close distance.

Reason to mention all these details is to try to describe how big it is. Here we were on one side of the building and you may assume that other side is a bit smaller or not as big as this side.

And then we go to the other side of the building and it is even more big. Interesting building for sure.

Lovely experience in both Rome and Bucharest.
