La Vilella Baixa - Priorat Wine Region

Yesterday I drove to the Priorat region, two hours south of Barcelona which produces some of the best wines from the country. I spent the night at some friend's home at La Vilella Baixa, one of the smallest villages in the area. The picture above is the view I have from my room window.

I decided to leave the city with plenty of time and I had the chance to take some pictures of the region before reaching the village.

The area is quite hilly with mountains down south. As you get into the region you start seeing the buildings of the wineries and the crops all over the hills.

When I reached the small village, my friends were not still there so I took some time to walk around and take some shots.

As it is a hilly area, you can find some steep streets

One of the houses had a welcome sign in Catalan which means "God take care of you"

I encountered a witch parking in one of the streets with all the brooms hanging on it.

It was on Church Street, where the priest also used to have its house.

Here's the church building from behind with a wind meter on the top.

As I reached the center of the village I found a small local wine shop, it was closed but you could see a bunch of empty bottles at the entrance.

Once the sun came down and everything started getting dark, the image of the village changed completely offering a nice view with some of the lights

I definitely will come back to the area to spend some more time in the future.

The first thing that I have noticed from your photo is that houses aren't painted as they used to be in almost every house on the Mediterranean Sea... But, on the other side, it's normal as the village isn't on the coast... It's great to see that even new buildings are built in the "old-style" manner and they blend perfectly in the surroundings!

...and those mountain (and valley) views are astonishing! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your photos, santigs69! The view from your window is incredible, and it sounds like you had a lovely time exploring the village. I'd love to visit the Priorat region someday.😍

I'll be happy to show you around.

Remote villages like this offer an interesting character of time standing still to a certain degree. Lovely old buildings still in use being looked after, small eateries a place to meet the locals normally too.

Once you start getting to know the place and the locals you feel at home!

It looks a wonderful region, enjoy settling in.
