Intro
This article presents one of the best preserved castles in Germany. In a beautiful location, 200 meters above the upper Danube, it juts out from the limestone cliffs as if newly built. The journey via Leibertingen between Hausen and Beuron is no problem by car, everything is well signposted and you should be able to get there easily with the navigation system. On foot from Beuron it is a hike of several hours, but it is also doable. As a reward for the effort, it takes your breath away when you cross the bridge to the castle.
In diesem Artikel wird eine der am besten erhaltenen Burgen Deutschlands vorgestellt. In wunderschöner Lage, 200 Meter über der oberen Donau, ragt sie wie frisch erbaut glänzend aus den Kalkfelsen hervor. Die Anfahrt über Leibertingen zwischen Hausen und Beuron ist mit dem Auto kein Problem, alles ist bestens ausgeschildert und auch mit dem Navi sollte man leicht dorthin kommen. Zu Fuß von Beuron ist es schon eine mehrstündige Wanderung, aber auch machbar. Als Lohn für die Mühe verschlägt es einem sofort den Atem wenn man die Brücke zur Burg überquert.
The condition of the castle can be described as almost new, although it already looked like this in 1554. Designed as a spur castle, it is built on a rock that was additionally abraded. That made it almost impregnable. The bridge from the weir to the castle offers a view of the upper Danube valley and is very impressive at 20 meters high.
Der Zustand der Burg kann als fast neuwertig bezeichnet werden, obwohl sie so bereits 1554 aussah. Als Spornburg angelegt ist sie auf einem Felsen gebaut, der zusätzlich abgeschrofft wurde. Damit ist sie fast uneinnehmbar gewesen. Die Brücke von der Wehranlage zur Burg bietet einen Blick ins obere Donautal und ist mir 20 Metern Höhe sehr beeindruckend.
The battlement is still in front of the castle and is limited on one side by the east tower. Unfortunately, access is only permitted for guests of the youth hostel and so the only thing left is to play with the imagination as to what might be hiding behind the walls.
Der Wehrgang befindet sich noch vor der Burg und wird vom Ostturm auf der einen Seite begrenzt. Leider ist der Zutritt nur für Gäste der Jugendherberge erlaubt und so bleibt nur das Spiel mit der Phantasie was sich wohl hinter den Mauern verbergen könnte.
The main castle has only very small, narrow windows in the possibly accessible area, no enemy can penetrate there.
Die Hauptburg hat im eventuell erreichbaren Bereich nur sehr kleine schmale Fenster, dort kann kein Feind eindringen.
The courtyard is freely accessible and awaits you with a bar. All other rooms are property of the youth hostel and therefore not public.
Der Burghof ist frei zugänglich und erwartet dich mit einem Schankbetrieb. Alle weiteren Räume sind Eigentum der Jugendherberge und damit nicht öffentlich.
The corridor between the bridge and the courtyard provides an insight into early medieval architecture. Stones from the nearby quarries, with the typical inclusions of Jura limestone, are covered with wooden steps without which going up would become a pure slide. I was very impressed by the entire building and I hope for a big medieval festival at the castle to get a taste of the old days.
Der Gang zwischen Brücke und Hof gewährt einen Einblick in die frühe mittelalterliche Baukunst. Steine aus den nahe gelegenen Steinbrüchen, mit den typischen Einschlüssen des Jurakalks, sind belegt mit Holzstufen ohne die ein Hinaufgehen zu einer reinen Rutschpartie werden würde. Mich hat das gesmte Bauwerk sehr beeindruckt und ich hoffe auf ein großes Mittelalterfest an der Burg um mehr von der alten Luft schnuppern zu können.

Das war bestimmt eine sehr schwer zu erobernde Burg! Das sie Heute noch als Jugendherberge genutzt wird finde ich sehr gut.

Wow - such a pretty castle, and quite interesting from a defensive aspect - as it seems that its more about location that it is about fortification ! And I love the white walls and red roof - it must look stunning.

Very beautiful and design with patern for the best technology at that time and still witness of the history for time being. Its exposure to know about few things about that time.
