Since many years we have been buying our Christmas Tree at the "Christbaumerlebniswald" between Schaubing and Karlstetten, not far from the Lower Austrian capital city Sankt Pölten
The Christbaumerlebniswald is one the biggest Christmas tree farms in Lower Austria and located at the so called Heimkehrerkapelle of Karlstetten. The Heimkehrerkapelle is a chapel built by local citizens that came back from war or captivity as a prisoner of war.
Of course, the Christbaumerlebniswald is especially beautiful when all the trees are covered with snow as they were when we visited it last year. This year the snow was already gone.
"Christbaumerlebniswald" litteraly translated means "Christmas tree experience wood" and buying a Christmas tree is really a wonderful experience there. You can of course buy a Christmas tree that has already be felled, but you can also go in the farm, look for your favorite tree and call an employee to fell it.
If you do not want to carry the Christmas tree to your car, the friendly employees will bring it with their ATVs to your car.
There is also a punch hat and you can buy tea, punch, mulled wine, bread with bacon etc. You can also buy sausages and grill them on the fire. I guess all children love that.
There are also stands with Christmas arts and crafts and on some days you can go on a walk with alpacas.
The Shropshire sheep are not (only) for your entertainment. They eat the grass and the weed between the Christmas trees without gnawing the trees as other sheep breeds would probably do.
Children will also love the big adventure playground and on the weekend children can craft Christmas decorations.
Probably you will like the Christbaumerlebniswald so much that you do not want to leave. No problem! You can also rent a tiny house.
If you come to the Christbaumerlebniswald on cloudless afternoon, you will be able to experience a beautiful sunset that turns the surrounding wood in magic light.
When you walk down and the weather is not too bad you will enjoy a nice view on Lower Austria's capital city Sankt Pölten.
For us, choosing and buying the Christmas tree at the Christbaumerlebniswald is already part of our family's Christmas tradition. If you live in the Eastern part of Austria you should definitely go there. Buying a Christmas tree there is more than a purchase, it is as the name states an experience.
