The Endless Beauty of St. Francis de Assisi Church in Isla de Fuego

in Pinmapple5 months ago

I've mentioned in my previous blog about my travel to the mystic island of Siquijor. Upon reaching the place, it was already past 8 in the evening. After a heavy journey, we will make sure to have a worthwhile visit to the island.

First thing in the morning, we visited the famous signage "Welcome to Siquijor", which is located in front of St. Francis de Assisi church. You can see here a mini plaza where you can take pictures around. Since it was my first travel outside of Cebu, I felt so excited and it made my inner self cry for happiness.

St. Francis de Assisi Church in Isla de Fuego

After taking pictures of its welcome signage, we decided to say a prayer. It was just so near to its signage so visiting its historical and religious place makes our travel more special.

The church seems so old but the significance of the church to its people is endless. Its enduring beauty will still amaze everyone who visits this remarkable place. And because it was Sunday, a lot of people were going inside the church so we decided to just observe how holy and precious the place was outside.

The facade of the church is formed into a pyramidal peak which shows the simple design in front. It has three window openings of tracery and glass panes above its arched-shaped entrance door. The center portion of the front wall below the window pane situates the patron saint.

Outside the church, you can see a little landscape garden which I believe made it look even more attractive to passers around. Local and foreign tourists surely visit the place for it is just adjacent to the area where the port is located. When you reach Siquijor Port, this church can be seen directly.

The church was built during the 17th century during the Spanish Regime and is one of the first and oldest structures built in the province. Its unique and historical features can be seen in the foundation of the church. Seeing this kind of structure made me think how grateful we are for having an abundant nature that Filipino ancestors could use in making classical features.

The church was made from stone corals as other churches were made during the Spanish colonization but its roof according to one of the old locals we asked was made of nipa plants, since it was renovated, it was transformed into tins already.

Its octagon-shaped belfry is located a few meters from the church and situated on a hilly part. I guess it was built intentionally on the hilly part because, during the Spanish period, the bell tower served as a watch tower over intruders and invaders.

You can see that the belfry is too old already because of the dark spots on its walls and even plants sprouting on the top of the wall.

Aside from the bell towers, they also had a small grotto near the church. This only proves the endless religious means of the people in Siquijor.

On the side, a wide open space for parking for churchgoers and for the kids to play too. There you can also see a small fishpond in front of its bell tower. And a huge statue of the saint.

Seeing the remarkable feature of the church adds to my delight in visiting Isla de Fuego. The peaceful atmosphere it gives and the beautiful nature of the place is amazing.

That's it for my blog my dear Hive Friends. Thank you for reading and supporting my blog.

Yes, indeed. Thank you for dropping by.

Niceeee. The last time I went to Siquijor, I wasn't able to explore the old churches. Hopefully, I'd get the chance to, one day.

I can feel that it is an old church because it is made up of stone. The place is very clean, and peaceful. Did you visit their beaches too?

Thank you for appreciating maam @simplybil. Yes, I tried to go to Paliton Beach. But there are still beaches I didn't have the chance to visit because of time constraints. Maybe next time😊

Siquijor was so beautiful. Need to go back to try free diving on the area. Almost every year I've been to Siquijor hopefully this year 2024 I can go there also.

Wow, that was amazing. Truly, the island offers a lot. I never tried free diving because I'm not good at swimming. Good for you that you are doing great in that kind of activity.

It feels like going to the past just by looking at the church! It's historic features made me curious of its history and story when it was made!

Thank you. True, I also love to go to the historical churches in the place.
