It's not very common to see pink lagoons around there, that's why the Cumaraguas Salt Flats are among the most visited sites of the Paraguaná Peninsula in Falcón state, in western Venezuela.
No es algo muy común ver lagunas rosadas por ahí, por eso las Salinas de Las Cumaraguas están entre los sitios más visitados de la Península de Paraguaná en el estado Falcón, al occidente de Venezuela.

Together with my group we approached the lagoons, which are several and very large. We walked along their shores and came across some simple facilities used by the people who work in salt processing.

Everyone's question here was: why do the lagoons have this spectacular color? The culprits are the tannins, natural substances of vegetable origin found in these waters and come from beings that inhabit them, such as the microscopic algae Dunaliella, a microorganism called Halobacterium and the Artemia shrimp, which measure barely 1 cm.

Falcón State is one of the main salt producers in Venezuela, of the five salt mines in the region, only Las Cumaraguas is exploited industrially, the others are exploited by artisanal methods.

Shortly before we left, those winds made an appearance together with a heavy rain, so we had to take shelter for a while under the roof of a structure that was in front of the salt flats.
