Este es un lugar muy popular de la ciudad de Mérida, en los andes venezolanos, y aunque sabía que me iba a encontrar con algo que no me gusta: animales encerrados en pequeños espacios, mi intención cuando fui a visitar el Parque Chorros de Milla era conocer una legendaria cascada.

Para llegar a la cascada hay que pasar por donde están los animales e inevitablemente los ves y por lo menos a mí me entristece que estén ahí, me gusta observar animales en su hábitat natural.
This zoo that belongs to the State, has an area of ten hectares, six of them are forests, has autochthonous species from the Venezuelan Andes, from other regions of the country and also from other countries. I show you some mammals, birds and reptiles that I saw there:

I know that today in the world many of these institutions are dedicated to the conservation of endangered species rather than to being an exhibition site for caged animals for the profit or entertainment of humans and at least the spaces where they are are wide and very similar to their habitats, but there are also zoos full of beautiful and valuable living beings deprived of their freedom in cages and very small and artificial fenced places, something that makes me angry and should not be allowed in any country.
Sé que actualmente en el mundo muchas de estas instituciones se dedican a la conservación de las especies en peligro más que a ser un sitio de exhibición de animales enjaulados para el lucro o la diversión de los humanos y al menos los espacios donde están son amplios y muy parecidos a sus hábitats, pero también hay zoológicos llenos de hermosos y valiosos seres vivos privados de su libertad en jaulas y sitios cercados muy reducidos y artificiales, algo que me da rabia y no debería estar permitido en ningún país.

As I mentioned at the beginning, the Milla River circulates through this area, amidst a fresh landscape that seems taken from a fairy tale: many tall and leafy trees, plants such as bromeliads and ferns, large rocks and the sound of water. It's the characteristic environment of the cloud forest of the Mérida state.
Como mencioné al principio, por esta zona circula el río Milla, entre un fresco paisaje que parece sacado de un cuento de hadas: muchos árboles altos y frondosos, plantas como las bromelias y helechos, grandes rocas y el sonido del agua. Es el ambiente característico de la selva nublada del estado Mérida.
While I was advancing along the paths and bridges, several jets appeared (hence the name of the park: Chorros = Jets) or small waterfalls. Although it's not hot there, many people don't miss the opportunity to get a little wet, I only approached to feel the water that came to us as if it were sprayed.
Mientras fui avanzando por las caminerías y puentes fueron apareciendo varios chorros (de ahí el nombre del parque) o pequeñas cascadas. Aunque allí no hace calor, mucha gente no pierde la oportunidad de mojarse un poco, yo sólo me acerqué para sentir el agua que nos llegaba como si fuera rociado.
I followed the route to the north end of the park to go to the main waterfall, but first, more small waterfalls.
Seguí la ruta hacia el extremo norte del parque para ir a la cascada principal, pero antes, más pequeñas caídas de agua.
Finally, after climbing some steep stairs, I reached the Tibisay waterfall, which receives that name due to an indigenous legend. I like to know these legends, although many of them are quite tragic. This narrates the following:
“The Milla river that runs through the Chorros de Milla Zoo gets its name from a legend in a tale by Tulio Febres Cordero that tells that a chief named Murachí died in defense of his tribe in battle against the Spanish conquerors, and from the tears from the beloved of the warrior of the Sierras Nevadas, the Indian princess Tibisay, the waters of the river that now flows through the grounds of the zoo and that is born along with the Albarregas river were formed. Finalmente luego de subir por unas empinadas escaleras, llegué a la cascada Tibisay, la cual recibe ese nombre debido a una leyenda indígena. Me gusta conocer estas leyendas, aunque muchas de ellas son bastante trágicas. Cuenta lo siguiente:
“El río Milla que recorre el Parque Zoológico Chorros de Milla recibe su nombre de una leyenda de un cuento de Tulio Febres Cordero que cuenta que un cacique de nombre Murachí murió en defensa de su tribu en batalla contra los conquistadores españoles, y de las lágrimas de llanto de la amada del guerrero de las Sierras Nevadas, la princesa india Tibisay, se formaron las aguas del río que ahora fluye por el terreno del zoológico y que nace junto con el río Albarregas. La cascada mayor del zoológico recibe el nombre de la princesa de la leyenda, Tibisay.” Fuente

On my way back I passed a lagoon, the Lagoon of the Ducks, it's an artificial space.

In front is a cafeteria, the visitor center to provide information to the public and the restrooms. In this area I sat for a while to eat and drink something before I left.
Al frente está un cafetín, el centro de visitantes para brindar información al público y los baños. Por esta zona me senté un rato a comer y beber algo antes de irme.

Que hermoso lugar, me gustan los paisajes verdes 😍. Y las cascadas hermosas, llevo tiempo sin ver una. Respecto al tema de los zoológicos, intento verle el lado bueno de que los cuidan y les dan comida. Quizás algunos animales que ya nacieron en cautiverio no tendrían las capacidades de valerse por sí mismos si son dejados en libertad a esa altura de la vida. Es un dilema moral complejo, pero mientras esten bien creo que estaría bien...

Claro, los que han nacido en cautiverio es muy difícil que se los pueda reinsertar en la naturaleza, pero al menos deberían estar en espacios amplios recreados como sus hábitats y no en simples jaulas o áreas cercadas, es muy triste, por eso pienso que los refugios o reservas son mejores para ellos que un zoológico en esas condiciones.
