After visiting the Sugar Cane Museum and The Arms Museum, the only thing left to visit was the last space of the Bolívar Sugar Mill, the Historic House of the Liberator, which is built on a hill with spectacular views of the valleys and mountains of San Mateo, a town in Aragua State.
Después de haber conocido el Museo de la Caña de Azúcar y el Museo de Armas, sólo faltaba visitar el último espacio del Ingenio Bolívar, la Casa Histórica del Libertador, la cual está construida en una colina con espectaculares vistas de los valles y montañas de San Mateo, pueblo del estado Aragua.
When leaving the Arms Museum we took a detour to the right that led us to the upper part of this historic complex.
Al salir del Museo de Armas tomamos un desvío a la derecha que nos condujo a la parte alta de este complejo histórico.
In just a few minutes you reach a certain altitude and begin to contemplate the beauty of this place, with greenery everywhere.
En apenas unos minutos llegas a cierta altura y comienzas a contemplar la belleza de este lugar, con verdor por todas partes.
And then there is the house, which was the main home of the Bolivar family in this hacienda, according to historical data is from the seventeenth century. The Liberator spent his childhood in these valleys, then brought his wife to live here and this was also one of the scenarios in his struggle for the independence of Venezuela.

In the front of the house stands the imposing statue of Antonio Ricaurte, the Colombian captain who joined Bolivar's patriotic cause and immolated himself during the battle of San Mateo (1814) to prevent the weapons stored there from falling into the hands of the royalist army.

This bronze statue is the work of Venezuelan sculptor Lorenzo González, and was placed on this corner in 1911, on the 100th anniversary of Venezuela's Independence.

Going inside the house, the guides show us the different areas and objects that are currently exhibited here.

The furniture and other pieces that can be seen here are original, they belonged to the Liberator or his family.

Everything looks impeccable in this newly restored historic home, the floors, ceilings, walls, windows and details such as the chandeliers.

And what do you think of this? It's an 18th century "hand chair" made of wood and studded leather, which was used mostly for carrying women, a job that fell to two people who lifted the chair by the wooden slats.

When you go out the back, comes one of the most exciting parts of this visit to the Historic House of the Liberator, because the guide tells you how this whole area exploded, leaving indelible traces both in the building and in the history of Venezuela.
Al salir por atrás, viene una de las partes más emocionantes de esta visita a la Casa Histórica del Libertador, porque el guía te cuenta cómo fue que toda esta área explotó, dejando huellas imborrables tanto en la edificación como en la historia de Venezuela.
In this part of the house that today are ruins, there used to be the kitchen and the rooms where the three slaves who took care of the place slept. Later Bolivar turned this into the ammunition and gunpowder deposit that was used for the battle of San Mateo. José Tomás Boves, chief of the royalists, was advancing towards these valleys with about 8 thousand soldiers on horseback, Bolivar orders his 1,500 men to entrench the zone and Antonio Ricaurte, when he was overwhelmed, asks his 50 soldiers to leave the site, lets in a group of realists and decided to blow up the whole arms park so that the enemy could not get hold of them.
En esta parte de la casa que hoy son ruinas, se encontraban antes la cocina y los cuartos donde dormían los tres esclavizados que cuidaban del lugar. Luego Bolívar convirtió esto en el depósito de municiones y pólvora que se usaron para la batalla de San Mateo. José Tomás Boves, jefe de los realistas, avanzaba hacia estos valles con unos 8 mil soldados a caballo, Bolívar ordena a sus 1.500 hombres atrincherar la zona y Antonio Ricaurte, al verse desbordado, le pide a sus 50 soldados abandonar el lugar, deja entrar a un grupo de realistas y decide volar todo el parque de armas para que el enemigo no se hiciera con ellas.
This surprising action of Ricaurte, sacrificing his own life for the patriotic cause, made Boves decide to withdraw from this confrontation.
Esta sorpresiva acción de Ricaurte, sacrificando su propia vida por la causa patriótica, hizo que Boves decidiera retirarse de este enfrentamiento.
These walls still preserve several blackened parts, caused by that great explosion, it is undoubtedly a shocking story.

At the back of the house there is also a beautiful patio, where there is a pomegranate tree, a bust of Bolivar and some plaques in honor of his wife Maria Teresa Rodriguez del Toro, who died just 8 months after the wedding, due to yellow fever.

From the back exit we can have another view of the house, the bell that is there is one of the points where people usually take more pictures.

The guided tour ended here and then we went to look around a bit more. The second level of the house was closed to the public, I remember the first time I came, years ago, you could go upstairs and see the rooms, there were beds and other period furniture there.
