In today's notes from the second day on the island of Gran Canaria, we look at the oasis where we spent the night. Also to the surrounding area. We will take part in a small race and finally we will fight the traps of the big city. So let's take a closer look at these events.
V dnešních zápiscích z druhého dne na ostrově Gran Canaria se podíváme do oázy, ve které jsme přenocovali. Také do přilehlého okolí. Zúčastníme se malého závodu a nakonec se popereme s nástrahami velkoměsta. Pojďme se tedy podívat na tyto události podrobněji.
For some strange reason I didn't set my alarm for the morning. But it was quite warm all night, so I woke up quite often, despite the fact that we drank two bottles of wine and all the rum in the evening. The last time I woke up was about 30 minutes before sunrise. And so I set out to explore the surroundings. I focused on the oasis first and then headed for the sea.
Z nějakého divného důvodu jsem si na ráno nenastavil budíka. Ale celou noc bylo docela teplo a tak jsem se budil poměrně často i přes to, že jsme večer vypili dvě lahve vína a i veškerou zásobu rumu. Naposledy jsem se probudil asi 30 minut před východem slunce. Tak jsem vyrazil na průzkum okolí. Nejprve jsem se zaměřil na oázu a následně zamířil k moři.
The beach wasn't particularly interesting and sunrise was fast approaching and I knew I only had a limited amount of time in perfect light thanks to the sun's violent trajectory. So once again I headed back to the little oasis in the middle of industry and desert.
Pláž nebyla nijak extra zajímavá. Východ slunce se rychle blížil a já věděl, že mám pouze omezený čas v perfektním světle díky prudké trajektorii slunce. Proto jsem opět zamířil zpět do malé oázy uprostřed průmyslu a pouště.
I therefore went a little further from the place where we slept, because I was a little curious about what awaited us on the way. I discovered that the surrounding desert is regularly flooded by the sea during major storms. I also came across several lakes where observatories were built for birdwatching. I regretted leaving the teleconverter for my telephoto lens at home because of the weight. Because I assumed I wouldn't need it. But as the future will show. He would definitely fit the bill. As soon as the sun rose above the horizon. I slowly started to make my way back to the campsite.
Vydal jsem se proto trochu dále od místa kde jsme spali, protože jsem byl tak trochu zvědavý co nás čeká dále na cestě. Zjistil jsem, že okolní poušť je pravidelně zaplavována mořem při velkých bouřích. Narazil jsem i na několik jezírek, kde byly vybudovány pozorovatelny pro sledování ptactva. Litoval jsem, že jsem doma nechal kvůli hmotnosti telekonvertor pro můj teleobjektiv. Protože jsem předpokládal, že ho nebudu potřebovat. Ale jak se v budoucnu ukáže. Rozhodně by se hodil. Jakmile slunce vystoupalo nad horizont. Začal jsem se pomalu vracet zpět k tábořišti.
I took a few more photos in the oasis along the way. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw movement in the place where my colleagues were sleeping. So I headed in that direction. Mamut was the first to climb out of the sleeping bag and he immediately asked how the morning photo shoot was. Čermus didn't really want to. He must have be exhausted from the night before. Somehow we were not in a hurry that morning and started our journey at about 10 o'clock in the morning. Towards the salt desert.
Cestou jsem udělal ještě několik fotografií v oáze. Koutkem oka jsem zahlédl pohyb v místě kde kolegové spali. Zamířil jsem tedy tímto směrem. První kdo vylezl ze spacáku byl Mamut a hned se ptal jaké bylo ranní focení. Čermusovi se moc nechtělo. Asi ho předchozí večer vyčerpal. Nějak jsme toho rána nepospíchali a na cestu jsme se vydali asi v 10 hodin dopoledne. Směrem do prosolené pouště.
After a while we came across other lakes. This time she was already dry. Not long, we saw the former salt production plant based on the evaporation of water. And after the last few wild beaches, we were fast approaching the urban agglomeration.
Po chvíli jsme narazili na další jezírka. Tentokrát byla již vyschlá. Za nedlouho jsme spatřili bývalou výrobnu soli na bázi odpařování vody. A po několika posledních divokých plážích jsme se rychle blížili k městské aglomeraci.
As soon as we arrived at the edge of the city, we were greeted by the sound of engines and the first thing we saw was a Porsche 911 at the local race track. We stuck to the ground and headed to the go-kart track across the street. As I'm sure some of you know. I'm quite close to motorsport and I've had several seasons in amateur hillclimb racing. That's why I chose this kind of entertainment as this year's Must experience. Čermus didn't want to participate for some reason and offered to take pictures with my camera. So it was a race against time just between me and Mammoth. With which in 2023 we have already conducted several races on local tracks around Prague. In the end, Čermus proved to be a real photographer, often changing positions and trying to find interesting compositions. And I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the result. Even though he doesn't normally take pictures. It can be seen that the geodetic work has trained him to look through a telescope. I in the white helmet achieved the fastest time of 1:06:486 and the Mammoth in the gray helmet clocked in at 1:09:718. After the race, we had a few celebratory beers in a local bar and headed deeper into the agglomeration.
Jakmile jsme dorazili na okraj města přivítal nás zde zvuk motorů a první co jsme uviděli bylo Porsche 911 na místním závodním okruhu. My jsme se drželi při zemi a zamířili na motokárové závodiště, které bylo přes ulici. Jak jistě někteří víte. Mám k motorsportu poměrně blízko a mám za sebou několik sezón v amatérských závodech do vrchu. Tak proto jsem zvolil jako letošní Musíme zažít, právě tento druh zábavy. Čermus se z nějakého důvodu nechtěl účastnit a nabídl se, že bude fotografovat mým foťákem. Takže to byl závod na čas pouze mezi mnou a Mamutem. Se kterým jsme v roce 2023 několik závodů již provedli na lokálních tratích po Praze. Čermus se nakonec ukázal jako skutečný fotograf, často měnil pozice a snažil se hledat zajímavé kompozice. A musím uznat, že mě výsledek mile překvapil. I přesto, že normálně nefotí. Je vidět, že ho geodetická práce vycvičila koukat skrze dalekohled. Já v bílé helmě jsem dosáhl nejrychlejšího času 1:06:486 a Mamut v šedivé helmě zajel čas 1:09:718. Po závodě jsme v místním baru dali několik oslavných piv a vyrazili hlouběji do aglomerace.
Not long the route we came to a small lighthouse, which eventually turned out to be a dead end. That's why we had to follow the main road until we reached a viewpoint from where we could see what was really waiting for us. From this point of view we knew we had quite a problem for the night and we would have to find a similar place as last year in Puerto de la Cruz.
Za nedlouho jsme došli k malému majáku, což se nakonec ukázalo jako slepá cesta. Proto jsme museli kopírovat hlavní silnici, až jsme došli na vyhlídku odkud bylo vidět co nás skutečně čeká. Z tohoto pohledu jsme věděli, že máme na noc docela problém a budeme muset najít podobné místo jako loni v Puerto de la Cruz.
Nevertheless, we continued further into the big city. Along the way there were several shopping centers marked on the map. That is why we hoped that we would be able to find the gas bomb we were looking for in at least one of them. Unfortunately, every such center offered only the cheap beach junk that gradually fills the oceans. I was finally successful at the last shop before the beach area. A Chinese bazaar full of all kinds of fakes saved us, the shop had the gas bomb we wanted in stock. With a clear conscience, we headed to the large beach where there were many bars and restaurants. We finally chose one of the last ones whose name was Columbus. It was run by an energetic gentleman who was constantly addressing customers passing by on the street. He even moved us closer to the bar when he saw one beer after another falling into us. It was necessary to prepare for a night on the outskirts of a big city.
Přesto jsme pokračovali dále do velkoměsta. Cestou bylo v mapě značených několik obchodních center. Proto jsme doufali, že alespoň v jednom z nich se nám podaří sehnat hledanou plynovou bombu. Bohužel každé takové centrum nabízelo pouze levné plážové haraburdí, které postupně plní oceány. Nakonec jsem byl úspěšný v posledním obchodě před plážovou oblastí. Zachránil nás čínský bazar plný všemožných padělků, ale také měl na skladě námi požadovanou plynovou bombu. S klidným svědomím jsme zamířili k velké pláži, kde bylo spousta barů a restaurací. Vybrali jsme si nakonec jeden z posledních, jehož jméno bylo Columbus. Vedl ho energický pán, který celou dobu oslovoval zákazníky procházející po ulici. Dokonce nás přesadil blíže k baru, když viděl jak do nás padá jedno pivo za druhým. Bylo potřeba se připravit na noc na okraji velkého města.
Tactically, we stayed in the bar longer after dark because I came up with a plan how to survive on the outskirts of town. The plan was to head to the dunes around which the city is built. But I had no idea what was waiting for us. It was a surprise when we started to meet big dunes, which are slowly pouring into the city. So the goal was to find a flat spot, preferably with a hard surface, so that our gear wouldn't be full of sand in the morning. We managed to find such a place quite quickly and were hardly seated. An opened bottle of wine was already circulating. I definitely didn't want to miss the morning photoshoot, so I set multiple alarms just to be safe. Because from what I saw in the dark, this place looked epic.
Takticky jsme v baru vydrželi déle po setmění, protože jsem vymyslel plán jak přežít na okraji města. Tím plánem bylo zamířit do dun, okolo kterých je město vystavěno. Jenomže jsem netušil co nás čeká. Překvapením bylo když jsme začali potkávat velké duny , které se pomalu sypou i do města. Cíl byl tedy najít rovné místo, pokud možno s tvrdým povrchem, aby naše vybavení nebylo ráno plné písku. Takové místo se nám podařilo najít docela rychle a sotva jsme usedli. Již kolovala otevřená láhev vína. Rozhodně jsem nechtěl prošvihnout ranní focení a tak jsem si pro jistotu nastavil více budíků. Protože z toho co jsem viděl ve tmě, my toto místo přišlo epické.

The second day on the island was much more interesting than the previous day. We managed to get the rest of the necessary equipment. We got a taste of the local sports grounds. We learned something about local nature and history. In doing so, we walked 14.6 km and finally found a place to sleep in the middle of interesting nature. Of course, we left no human tracks behind, except those from our feet, which were obliterated by the shifting sand.
Druhý den na ostrově byl daleko zajímavější než den předchozí. Podařilo se nám sehnat zbytek potřebného vybavení. Okusili jsme místní sportoviště. Dozvěděli jsme se něco z místní přírody a historie7. Přitom ušli 14.6 km a nakonec našli místo na spaní uprostřed zajímavé přírody. Samozřejmě jsme za sebou nezanechali žádné lidské stopy, kromě těch od našich nohou, které zahladil přesýpající se písek.
