I'm back with another installment of Gran Canaria travel experiences. Today we look into the morning dunes. We will try to get to the beginning of the planned trail and end the day at the bottom of the valley.
Jsem tu zpět s dalším dílem zážitků z cest po ostrově Gran Canaria. Dnes se podíváme do ranních dun. Pokusíme se dostat na začátek plánované stezky a závěr dne ukončíme na dně údolí.
When I woke up in the morning to the first ring of the alarm, I was not at my best, thanks to a difficult evening the previous day. But I had no choice but to get up and go take pictures in the dunes. Because I don't know if such an opportunity will arise again.
Když jsem se ráno probudil na první zazvonění budíku, nebylo mi zrovna nejlépe, díky náročnému večeru předchozího dne. Ale nezbývalo mi nic jiného něž se zvednout a vyrazit fotit do dun. Protože nevím, zda se mi ještě taková možnost naskytne.
First I moved on the firm bottom of the dunes. And when I have mastered the technique of moving in loose sand a little. I also went to the peaks with much less effort than, for example, when I was in the north of Poland many years ago.
Nejprve jsem se pohyboval po pevném spodku dun. A když jsem si trochu osvojil techniku pohybu v sypkém písku. Vydal jsem se i na vrcholky s daleko menší námahou, než třeba když jsem byl před mnoha lety na severu Polska.
Because there were a lot of people around the beach even though it was a few minutes after sunrise. I had to head for the highest and most challenging part of the dunes. So that I could capture this landscape without people and footprints in the sand.
Jelikož se v okolí pláže pohybovalo velké množství lidí i přesto, že bylo pár minut po východu slunce. Musel jsem zamířit do nejvyšší a nejnáročnější části dun. Abych mohl zachytit tuto krajinu bez lidí a stop v písku.
Twenty minutes after sunrise, it was already so hot in the dunes that I decided to return to the place where we spent the night. Which also turned out to be a big challenge. Because orientation in the dunes is completely different than in any other landscape. Everything looks similar, if not exactly the same, and you have to move along the ridges of the dunes. Above all, it is important to stick to some point in the distance. And then find a specific place according to small details. For example, I was helped by a root growing parallel to the ground from the dune and halfway leading back into the ground at a right angle.
Po dvaceti minutách od východu slunce už bylo v dunách takové vedro, že jsem se rozhodl pro návrat do místa kde jsme trávili noc. Což se také ukázalo jako velká výzva. Protože orientace v dunách je naprosto jiná než v jakékoliv jiné krajině. Všechno vypadá podobně, né li úplně stejně a je třeba se pohybovat po hřebenech dun. Hlavně je důležité držet se nějakého bodu v dálce. A pak najít konkrétní místo podle malých detailů. Mě třeba pomohl kořen rostoucí rovnoběžně se zemí z duny a v půlce vedl pod pravým úhlem zpět do země.
The return took me about as much time as the entire morning photo shoot. But I finally found the place. I woke up both sleepers by saying that we had to get moving before it got too hot. Because they were waiting for us about 2 km through the desert to the nearest part of the city.
Návrat mi zabral asi tolik času jako celé ranní focení. Ale nakonec jsem místo našel. Oba spáče probudil s tím, že se musíme dát do pohybu než tam bude strašné vedro. Protože nás čekali asi 2 km pouští do nejbližší části města.
A short distance from the lighthouse, we strengthened ourselves with an alcoholic drink to repair our stomachs. And then continued through the tourist city jungle to a neighborhood called Sonnenland. Here I found a shopping center on the map. Where we wanted to buy food for a few days. Because it was finally time to go out into nature. However, the shopping center was 99% deserted and the place looked quite depressing. Fortunately, there was a grocery store and a Chinese restaurant on the hill above the mall where we ate and drank before heading to the beginning of the trail across the island.
Nedaleko od majáku jsme se posilnili alkoholickým drinkem na srovnání žaludků. A pokračovali turistickou džunglí ke čtvrti se jménem Sonnenland. Zde jsem našli v mapě obchodní centrum, kde jsme chtěli nakoupit potraviny na několik dalších dní. Jelikož už bylo na čase konečně vyrazit do přírody. Jenomže obchodní centrum bylo z 99% opuštěné a místo působilo navíc dost depresivně. Naštěstí na kopci nad nákupním centrem byl obchod s potravinami a čínská restaurace, kde jsme se najedli, napojili. Předtím než jsme zamířili na začátek stezky přes ostrov.
The hiking trail starts in the north of the city at the hospital parking lot. And the first object that must be conquered is the underpass under the bridge on which the highway runs. At least the place was painted with some nice graffiti.
Turistická stezka začíná na severu města na parkovišti u nemocnice. A první objekt, který se musí pokořit je podchod pod mostem na kterém vede dálnice. Alespoň bylo místo pokresleno pěknými graffiti.
Not long, we found ourselves at the bottom of a deep valley. On the walls were led old aqueducts that still supply the city with water from the mountains.
Za nedlouho jsme se ocitli na dně hlubokého údolí, na jehož stěnách byli vedeny staré akvadukty, které ještě dnes zásobojí město vodou z hor.
After another 5 kilometers, we started looking for a place to sleep, as the evening began to approach uncompromisingly. And it took us a long time to make our way through the city. As a place to sleep, we found an abandoned quarry with several fireplaces, so it was clear to us that here someones spends the night here. And that's why we ended our journey here for the day.
Po dalších 5 kilometrech jsme začali hledat místo na spaní, protože se večer začal nekompromisně blížit. A nám trvalo dlouho dobu než jsme se probili přes město. Jako místo na spaní jsme našli opuštěný lom s několika ohništi, takže nám bylo jasné, že se zde občas přenocuje. A proto jsme zde naši cestu pro tento den ukončili.

Again, in some mysterious way, we managed to cover almost 14 kilometers, although in the morning it looked like a desert in the desert. Finally, we left the cities and the sea behind and a few days in nature awaited us.
Zase se nám nějakým záhadným způsobem podařilo ujít skoro 14 kilometrů, i když to po ránu vypadalo na dezerci v poušti. Konečně jsem za sebou zanechali města, moře a čekalo nás několik dní v přírodě.
Já vím, žes´ tam nebyl teď. Ale včera jsem dost vymrzl a ty pasáže o pekelném horku na dunách jsem si četl dvakrát... Jestli znáš Cimrmana, tak to mělo podobný efekt jako ve hře Dobytí severního pólu Čechem Karlem Němcem 5. dubna 1909, když si zmrzlí polárníci špitali o požáru Národního divadla.
Chtěl jsem se zeptat na ty staré aquaducty. Píšeš, že ještě fungují. Jak po nich teče voda? Je nahoře potrubí? Nebo jen strouha? Nebo jak jako? Dík.
Dřív tam bývala jen strouha, teď je do toho vložená PVC trubka.
Stavitelé asi věděli, proč to nezakrývat... Trubka z PVC asi zabrání odparu, ale co s ní a s vodou v ní udělá horko a sluneční záření, nechci domýšlet.
