Da Nang Fine Arts Museum - Appreciating contemporary art in Central Vietnam.

in Pinmapplelast year

To gather information and directly experience the cultural and artistic highlights of the museums in Da Nang city for my learning journey. I chose the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum to start my trip.

As a student, it is essential to be exposed to various art forms and styles to broaden my horizons. The Da Nang Fine Arts Museum houses some of Vietnam's most important traditional and contemporary art collections, and I am excited to explore the exhibition rooms here. The museum's exhibitions are diverse and display many types of media, including painting, sculpture, and pottery. In addition to traditional art, the museum also showcases artifacts and objects illustrating the history and culture of Da Nang city and neighboring regions in Central Vietnam.

The museum consists of three floors

  • Ground floor: This is the reception area and the place to display paintings, sculptures, statues, and other art products by famous artists in and outside the country.
  • 2nd floor: This is the space for displaying paintings, statues, and other art products by young artists.
  • 3rd floor: This is the space for organizing exhibitions of art, painting, sculpture, and art-related activities. This floor also has a classroom for interactive activities and art introduction for audiences.

On the 1st floor, I could admire contemporary art works in the short term. The paintings mainly reflect the true life and people of Da Nang. In my opinion, the paintings here have a very simple, authentic, and close layout and meaning to people. Some everyday activities of people or drawings of children were also depicted realistically.

Lacquer- Cat and lotuses

Coming to the 2nd floor, it brings a completely different space compared to the 1st floor. If the 1st floor brings me a simple and close feeling about people and life, on the 2nd floor, there are oil paintings, lacquer paintings, statues, so on.

Lacquer - Tre's vitality

Oil painting is one of the famous types of painting in Vietnam. What I found most unique about this type of painting is that because it is painted with oil, it is bright and shiny, so every detail is very sharp and authentic. In particular, this type of painting can be preserved for a very long time.

Oil on canvas - The holiness of land and people

Lacquer is a traditional type of painting in Vietnam. What is most unique about this type of painting is that it is made of many natural materials such as eggshells, wood, and stone. Lacquer artists will paint a layer of lacquer paint on the surface of the stone or wood, then use a grinding and polishing process to create a painting.

Lacquer - In the Guol house

In addition, there are also paintings made from silk, watercolors, and wood carvings.
Serigraphy - The full of the first month at Ngoc Sơn Temple

Composite - Quang Da postmen

The main works are inspired by the revolutionary struggles of the Vietnamese people. I feel very amazed when visiting the museum's displays reflecting the simple daily life of the people of Da Nang. These artworks truly take me back to a time when life was not yet industrialized, when everything was simple and natural. I cannot help but admire the talent of the artists who drew these paintings with full of emotions and authenticity.

The 3rd-floor space exhibits 3D works of art that reflect the traditional culture of Van-Nam artists and many provinces in Vietnam. Here I saw mostly sculptures made from bronze, wood, ceramics, and stone art. Decorative motifs on fabrics, exhibiting artifacts of temples and masks.

Here, I feel all the memories, unique features of Vietnamese culture and art are recreated. From household items used in daily life to ethnic musical instruments, traditional folk carvings of the Central Highlands, and artifacts imbued with Buddhist culture.

I could not believe my eyes when standing in front of hundreds of statues used from ancient times in Vietnam at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum. My emotions at this time cannot be described in words. It was a strange feeling, between astonishment and admiration for the endless creativity of the Vietnamese from the previous century. These statues have again reproduced the cultural qualities, spiritual strength and artistic talent of my country, and I will definitely never forget this.
Wishing everyone a delightful read!

@crazy-bee The museum is located at 78 Le Duan street, Thach Thang, Hai Chau district, Danang. It's very close to the city center. I forgot to include the address in my post.

Even though, I am a Vietnamese, there are so many things to learn this post. I think I miss some information about our country's history. By the way, your photos are very good to show the good corners of the museum @sophronia. Keep up the good work.
