There are places in the world that we all dream of knowing, jungle 🏞️, beach 🏖️, mountain 🏖️, snow 🏔️ or desert 🏜️ and there are countries that are blessed with all these elements of nature. To think of deserts in Venezuela 🇻🇪 is to go to Falcón state and enjoy immense dunes.
After touring the northernmost point of Venezuela and getting to know the San Roman Lighthouse, we headed to the pink-colored Salinas de Cumaraguas and had lunch at Adicora beach, the group wanted to see the sunset over the dunes, 4 pm is the perfect time to see the sun go down.
I remember a young man said "we arrived at the place where we will see who does cardiovascular exercise", I reflected on why he must have made that comment 🤔. Before my eyes were the immensity of the desert's large dunes, I wanted to climb and reach the highest of them all. The guides recommended we climb with shoes and whoever had sandals to wear socks, I was wearing sandals so I followed the advice.
Hay lugares en el mundo que todos soñamos con conocer, selva 🏞️, playa 🏖️, montaña ⛰️, nieve 🏔️ o desierto 🏜️ y hay países que son bendecidos con todos estos elementos de la naturaleza. Pensar en desierto en Venezuela 🇻🇪 es ir al estado Falcón y disfrutar de inmensas dunas.
Luego de recorrer el punto más al norte de Venezuela y conocer el Faro de San Román, nos dirigimos a las Salinas de color rosa de Cumaraguas y almorzamos en la playa Adicora, el grupo quería ver el atardecer sobre las dunas, las 4 de la tarde es la hora perfecta para ver el sol descender.
Recuerdo que un joven dijo "llegamos al sitio donde veremos quien hace ejercicio cardiovascular", reflexioné porque habrá hecho ese comentario 🤔. Ante mis ojos estaba la inmensidad del desierto grandes dunas de arena, quería subir y llegar a la más alta de todas. Los guías nos recomendaron subir con zapatos y quien tuviera sandalias que se pusiera medias, yo llevaba sandalias así que seguí el consejo.
The socks protect the feet from the thorns and the almost microscopic animals that bite when climbing, I got off the bus excited because I would make my dream of being in the desert come true. I tried to climb at my own pace, but I was sinking and did not advance, I walked and walked and nothing, then I understood the comment of the young man, it is a challenge to walk in the desert. To climb I had to run up before sinking, that day I regretted being so sedentary, I climbed on 4 legs like animals or crawling like children anyway the idea was to climb. If I couldn't that way I would do it crawling like snakes nevertheless I would get there. 😜
Las medias protegen los pies de las espinas y de los animales casi microscópicos que pican al subir, me baje del bus emocionada porque haría realidad mi sueño de estar en el desierto. Intenté subir a mi ritmo, pero me hundía y no avanzaba caminaba y caminaba y nada entonces entendí el comentario del joven, es todo un desafío caminar por el desierto. Pará subir tenía que correr hacia arriba antes de hundirme, ese día lamente ser tan sedentaria, subí en 4 patas como los animales o gateando como los niños de todas formas la idea era subir. Si no podía de esa manera lo haría arrastrandome como las serpientes no obstante llegaría. 😜
As I was climbing there was a group of young college kids between 20 and 25 years old, they stayed behind and exclaim I can't, help me, someone help us up, please. Some halfway up the mountain turned around, but everyone was focused on their sacrifice.
I ran and ran dune to dune up while fighting with negative thoughts, I felt I had no strength to continue, I wanted to give up but I listened to my trained mind and it motivated me, you can do it, keep going don't stop, I finally reached the top and it was that feeling of success that made me happier than any beautiful landscape 🏋️, to reach my friends I had to go down that dune and up another one, being on the first one gave me the motivation to continue.
Mientras subía había un grupo de chicos universitarios jóvenes entre 20 y 25 años, ellos se quedaron atrás y exclaman no puedo, ayúdenme, alguien que nos ayude a subir, por favor. Algunos a mitad de montaña volteaban, pero todos estaban concentrados en su propio sacrificio.
Corrí y Corrí duna a arriba mientras luchaba con pensamientos negativos, sentía que no tenía fuerzas para seguir, quería rendirme pero escuchaba mi mente entrenada y me motivaba, ¡tú si puedes, sigue adelante no pares!, Por fin llegué a la cima y fue esa sensación de éxito que me hizo más feliz que cualquier paisaje hermoso 🏋️♀️, para alcanzar a mis amigos tenía que bajar esa duna y subir otra, estar en la primera me dio motivación para seguir.

Going down is easier, you still feel how the sand eats you, I went back up, and there I stayed admiring in all directions the desert I did not intend to climb another dune I had no strength, I looked for the sun to see the sunset and what I saw was some gray clouds loaded with water and lightning and flashes very close. When they began to call everyone to return because a storm was approaching some went down the dunes circling around and then regretted it because their tension got out of control.
Rain in the desert stings, burns and hurts, all three things I felt as every drop on the sand splashed and it is a horrible way to enjoy the rain, we all ran out of the dunes amidst the darkness and sand stuck to our skin. This ride was not as I had dreamed I experienced different things than expected and I was left wanting to return.
Bajar es más fácil, igual sientes como te come la arena, volví a subir y allí me quedé admirando en todas las direcciones el desierto no pretendía subir otra duna no tenía fuerzas, busque el sol para ver el atardecer y lo que vi fue unas nubes grises cargadas de agua y rayos y centellas muy cerca. Cuando empezaron a llamar a todos para regresar porque se aproximaba una tormenta algunos bajaron dando vueltas por las dunas después se arrepintieron porque se les descontroló la tensión.
La lluvia en el desierto pica, quema y duele, las tres cosas sentí como cada gota en la arena que salpica y es una forma horrible de disfrutar de la lluvia, todos salimos corriendo de las dunas entre la oscuridad y la arena pegada en la piel. Este paseo no fue como lo había soñado experimente cosas distintas a las esperadas y me quedaron ganas de volver.

Recommendation to go to the desert
- Wear closed shoes
- Go in summer because in winter it also rains in the desert.
- Exercise.
- Running up is the best way to get there without dying in the attempt.

We came back all sore, tired, and very happy, the next day was more painful of course. I can now cross one more place off my bucket list, thank God I walked over the desert and survived to tell the tale.
Recomendación para ir al desierto
- Usar zapatos cerrados
- Ir en verano porque en invierno también llueve sobre el desierto.
- Hacer ejercicio.
- Subir corriendo es la mejor manera de llegar sin morir en el intento.
- Hacer ejercicio 😂
Regresamos todos adoloridos, cansados y muy felices, el día siguiente fue más doloroso por supuesto. Ya puedo borrar un lugar más de mi lista de deseos, gracias a Dios camine sobre el desierto y sobreviví para contarlo.
