RE: 1Walking Through The Ruins of Imsouane

in Pinmapplelast month

How bizarre! Bulldozing a functioning town because the businesses didn't have a license? I suppose there must be plans to rebuild it, probably bigger and more expensive, with possibly way more restrictions and stuff... I can only imagine how that will affect surfers and campers! Lucky for you guys, you could see the place before it gets plastered over, and it even seems like you were there to see the original Imsouane before it got torn down.

Cool murals, by the way! Love the Berber lady with the stern look.

Yeah I guess they'll gentrify it a little? I don't know the reason. There's a lot of building going on that's for sure. It'll be a different place in a couple of years!

Hahaha, gentrify it a little? It's bad enough if socioeconomic forces gradually push existing residents out of their functioning neighborhoods. Still, it's nothing compared to the flattening of said neighborhoods by the authorities. Because the "if you build it they will come" adage does not always apply, especially to gigantesque gov´t projects that may look good on paper. But let's see... Maybe it'll turn into another one of those horror stories of "can't believe this place used to be so nice!" In any case, you were there and saw it yourself.

Who knows with Morocco. They use to cover concrete blocks with render and it looks nice enough.
