Oh I agree! It is the interactions with the local people that I meet that give me the Fondest Memories of any of the places that I have ever traveled to. In Lisbon a man at the bus stop heard me trying to figure out the map using my English language dictionary, (back in the day) and he engaged in conversation and then proceeded to sit near me on the bus and give me a tour of of the sites that we were going past and tell me some history about the city. My own private tour guide! He even rode to my end destination, even though it was further than he had originally intended to go, simply because there were a few more sites that he wanted to point out to me. Another wonderful memory of Lisbon is of a woman that I met in a small museum who shared with me what it had been like growing up in Portugal under communism. We both ended up in tears and there were lots of hugs.
People are the reason I always stay in Pousadas rather than hotels it's so much easier to meet people!

People can be so terrible, but also so amazing!
