IT'S ADVENTURE TIME !!!
A while back in Danabaai me and @misshugo along with her father decided to do some prawn catching in the local lagoon on second beach. It was an amazing experience since I have never done anything of the sort, I mean I have fished before and hunted before but this was something else something a lot more intriguing and certainly a lot more fun to do well except for the bending down part of it all.
Her father received an old prawn catching tool from a friend and seeing that he is into the sports of fishing he decided to go and catch his own live prawn bait. So of we set on this journey for the prawns. I have to admit at first I thought there is no way in hell that we would be able to catch any prawns and that this will be a waste of time. Hah I was quickly surprised and shocked at how easy it actually was.
This year we will be a bit more prepared to hunt prawns, we will definitely improve on doing faster siphoning work on the sand, covering more ground faster should give us the edge we need for a full bucket. Hopefully.
Off we go on the sandy adventures! It was quite the walk from the parking area to the lagoon on second beach so I decided to do test out my photography skills in between. Snapping photos of all the randoms and beautifuls around the area.
The wavy pattern of the sand made for a nice photo. I added a touch of detailing to really bring out the edges a bit.
In the photo below you can clearly see that we weren't the only one's in the area hunting for prawns or even little fish. We decided to steer clear of them as to not disturb them in the hunting for food, seeing that we were the trespassers over here.
Someone's abandoned little seaside hut, I am guessing this took some time to slap together. Perhaps another prawn catcher's resting place. But for today it was ours while hunting for the prawns.
Upon arriving at the lagoon we did a quick tester to see what we can expect. Low and behold the very first scoop we did we found two prawns, it was at this moment we knew whatever plane we had was going to pan out perfectly. Although they are small yes, but at the end of the day they would only be the bait for the bigger portion of something to eat.

Luckily we were three people so we could regularly shift or switch up what each person does, making it a little less of doing the same thing over and over. Which got tiring by the way, its very easy yes but certainly requires a lot more effort than most people think.
@misshugo gently washing out the sand in the container with water to expose the hidden prawns in the sand. We didn't get prawns out of every pump more like one out of every three pumps although they did rack up very quickly, before we knew it we were sitting with half a bucket of prawns.
She was risking a lot siphoning through that sand with those rings on her fingers! Eeyyy miss?
A few photos where I tried getting close up photos of the prawns, as you can see they are somewhat transparent and their intestines very visible. Also I doubt these would be fitting to eat by them self, they have a lot of sand in their tail piece where most of the meat is. So chowing on these should be a earthy and sandy experience!
I had to be so carefull as to not squeeze the life out of them before we could use them as bait, they felt so very fragile!. Although thinking of it they have somewhat of an hard armory exterior so they would have probably been fine.
It wasn't the plan but in the photo below you can see the size difference between the larger and smaller ones that we were able to capture, I do feel somewhat bad for the little prawn fella. But soon he will be fish food just like nature intended.
We now almost had a bucket and a half of prawns and we decided that was enough to catch a few fish with. So off we go calling it a day! The next day we would be setting off in the early morning hours to do some seaside fishing and hopefully catch a nice big fish to eat for dinner that upcoming night.
The sun setting behind us as we were slowly walking along the beach front enjoying the crashing of the waves and the sqauqking of the seagulls. I absolutely and without hesitation stopped and almost dropped the bucket of prawns to catch a photo of the sunset before it fell behind the sand dunes.
All of the photos have either an accentuate filter or some detailing done to it, either or, or both. Giving it a nice crispy detailed look.

I've done all sorts of fishing but never have I ever seen how people catch prawns in such a manner! That looked like lots of fun and I really liked that hut thingy, looked so cool for photoshoots!
Haha laughs... I too was left in awe when the Betty's dad said he is going to use that blue sucker to catch prawns... At first I thought he was being sarcastic!
I did take some more photos of her at the hut.. I just didnt add all of them😂
We are going down to Danabaai again this December.. I wonder if that hut wil still be there

Hahaha welll.... These are sand prawns.. Or at least I think they are sand prawns... They are not really meant for eating 🙈🙉.. Unless well the situation is dire....
We used them to catch some fish! I will write a story about that sometime in the near future... Although we only managed to catch one fishy... Hopefully this year it will be plentyfull
Oh!! 🎣🚫🍽 Lol oops. I don't really know that much about seashore critters, but that makes sense. Kind of like how minnows are bait fish, but like you said, if the situation was dire...
