When The Devil Thaws

in Worldmappin3 days ago (edited)

This week we have had unusually high temperatures and rain. Mixed with melting snow, I figured this would be a perfect time to hike to the Devils Punchbowl in Stoney Creek Ontario! The 120 foot tall Ribbon waterfall is quite the beauty! In the summer it will be dry, but in all other seasons it will have a decent flow and even freeze in the winter.

I hit the trail and immediately realized that this would not be an easy hike. Wet ice and mud, would make this very difficult.

The lower punchbowl falls (a 12 foot waterfall) is usually very easy to not only get to, but also go behind. In these conditions, I was not even going to attempt getting to it.

Slowly making my way along the trail, gave the opportunity to just soak in the beautiful scenery!

The spot to climb down the creek bed was covered in ice, with nothing but ice and water at the bottom.

Despite that I still decided to try to get to the bottom of the waterfall. Reaching only a few feet past that point (you can see where the ice broke from where I walked).

So I had to put the drone up and snap a couple of shots.

By the time I got off the trail, it was dark and the large cross at the top was lit up.
