The Caminho Real 23, as this entrance is called, was of enormous importance in the times when we populated the region of Madeira, until then still deserted.
This port was one of the entrances to the island by sea, which in its heyday functioned as a kind of link between the town and the sea, allowing for greater ease in supply and maritime exchanges.
Today the ruins of São Jorge are a major tourist attraction but once supplied 10 of the 11 municipalities on the island, in total there are 37 parishes.
enigmatic and intriguing, that's how I see this door with a privileged view of the sea, hence the name of the title.
On the other side of the portal, in this case, at the exit to the sea, there is a beautiful rocky beach, with black stones, very natural in this area of the island, since it is volcanic.

Imposing and majestic, the Calhau de São Jorge is a true natural treasure of Madeira Island.
It is very visited by tourists, mainly by people who go to the typical mandeiras, as it is about 5 minutes away.
Located on the north coast of Madeira, this rocky promontory bathed by the Atlantic Ocean is a spectacle of nature.
As I approached Calhau de São Jorge, I was attracted by its color and texture, in addition to its size.
It reminded me of the world of Avatar, the rock formation emerges from the source of the ocean with its green color as if it were a protector of the coast, its presence and a raw manifestation of nature

in the middle of nowhere but very close to harmony and close to nature we can sit in a small cafe that is very close to the beach, and simply listen to the sea lapping on the rocks and relax a little, you can also choose to climb the mountain, but how we didn't have much time so we continued our journey to another location.
