4 things should try once in Hoi An, Vietnam

in Pinmapple2 years ago

Hello Hivers, today I will introduce to you an impressive and peaceful place in Vietnam - Hoi An ancient town. With its characteristic yellow color and ancient beauty, Hoi An is known as a definite place to visit once in a lifetime. If you only have 1 day here, I would suggest you to do the following 4 things

Hoi An is located in Quang Nam province, about 30 km south of Da Nang city. Hoi An ancient town has existed for about 500 years with Champa culture combined with cultural exchange between Japan and China, so the style here is very beautiful with typical yellow and red colors.

I have just had a tour of Hoi An in early September, although I have very little time here (1 day), but I can feel a peaceful and ancient Hoi An. I have listed 4 definite things to do in Hoi An, you can try when you come to this place

1. Walk and visit the ancient yellow houses in Hoi An
Because Hoi An ancient town is very small, you can walk or cycle to slowly see the streets and houses here. The best time is from 6 am to 8 am when dawn has just risen, this is also the time when Hoi An is quietest and most peaceful.
The houses in Hoi An are built only 1 to 2 floors and are quite small. Material from ironwood is the main and is painted in yellow color. In front of each house, there is usually a truss of bougainvillea (flowers that grow in clusters on high and are white & pink). These houses are quite solid because when the flood season comes, they do not fall or damage

2. Visiting temples and museums in Hoi An
Previously, Hoi An was a port located close to Hoai River, there was trade between Japan and China, so the culture here was also influenced by these two countries. Hoi An has many beautiful temples and assembly halls. I visited Phap Bao Pagoda, Phuoc Quan Assembly Hall, Ong Pagoda, Ba Mu Pagoda and especially Cau Pagoda (the location printed on the back of the 20 thousand Vietnamese Dong). When I visit temples, I find my heart calmer and I can pray in front of Buddha statues for good things.
In addition, Hoi An also has quite a few interesting museums. You should go to Hoi An museum or Champa museum to better understand the culture here

3. Try the typical dishes in Hoi An
This place has many delicious dishes such as Quang noodles, bread, Cao Lau, chicken rice, lemongrass lemonade, tofu. Vietnam is famous for its bread but perhaps Hoi An is the place that sells the best one. Some places I have chosen to eat are: Ba Buoi chicken rice, Mrs. Khanh's bread, Mot Hoi An juice (a herbal juice made from lemon and lemongrass), beef vermicelli and Quang noodles on Phan Chu Trinh street.
The price in Hoi An is very reasonable, about 30-40k/1 dish. With a diverse and rich cuisine, this is the reason why so many tourists enjoy coming here

4. Ride a boat on Hoai River and release lanterns
In the evening, boats will be rowed busy on Hoai River to carry tourists to visit and see Hoi An in the evening. The price for a boat ride on the river is 150,000 VND for 1 to 3 people. Time on the boat will last about 20 minutes. The special thing about the boating experience is that it goes very slowly because the driver is completely manual, not using the engine. This was a very interesting experience, I dropped a lantern into the river and made a wish. The locals say that if the flower lights go down to the river and make a wish, the wish will come true

Above are 4 things to try when coming to Hoi An, besides there are many other interesting activities you can try around the old town: such as visiting the seven-acre coconut forest, going to An Bang or Cua Dai beach, sightseeing and making pottery at Thanh Ha pottery village

Thank you so much for reading my post today. Have a great day and lots of fun!

Whenever I visit Pinmaple, I get to see so many amzing places all across the globe and sometimes I kind of feel really bad for missing out in visiting all these exciting places lol but as of now nothing can be done I suppose. Just explore these amazing places in the eyes of the author. Thanks to HIVE for making all this possible.

Overall, the city does indeed looks pretty old but the way it is being taken care of that is indeed amazing. Neat and clean and looks stunning as well. While some of the images does reminds me of some movie scenes as well.

I often do two of those tasks whenever I travel to some place new.

  • Take a small tour around that place and see all the amazing scenarios of that place
  • Have food that are unique to that place. Asking the locals helps the most :)

While thanks for making the post and it was a indeed a nice follow up!

Thank you so much cuz you read my post. Hope that you will travel to Hoi An one day

I remember Ms. Saigob in your post. Why are the houses are colored in yellow?

Because yellow represents antiquity. In addition, Hoi An has brown color from wood, red color from tile. Those are all familiar materials in Vietnam to build houses
