KAWAH SIKIDANG
Quite Dangerous Beauty.

Hello everyone, I hope you are always healthy and happy!

This time I want to review a tourist spot that is still in the Dieng plateau, Central Java. This place is called Sikidang Crater, one of the tourist destinations that must be visited when in Dieng. The Sikidang Crater was formed from volcanic eruptions in ancient times and is still active today. The surface temperature of the crater is approximately 80-90 degrees Celsius. Even though it is still active, this crater is classified as safe because its sulfur levels are low.

THE LEGENDARY STORY OF THE FORMATION OF THE SIKIDANG CRATER

IMG_2785.JPG

Long ago, it was said that the formation of this crater was based on folklore about the match between Queen Sinta Dewi and Prince Kidang Garungan. Because Prince Kidang is thought to be similar to "kidang" (which means deer). Finally, Queen Sinta was reluctant to marry Prince Kidang. Queen Sinta also asked the Prince to build a well as a form of love. The prince agreed, without knowing that Queen Sinta had bad intentions.

When Prince Kidang was digging a well, the guards and Queen Sinta deliberately buried Prince Kidang alive. With all the strength he had, the Prince tried to get out of the well but was unsuccessful. The Prince was angry and his anger made the water from the well boil. And this story is believed to be the origin of the formation of Sikidang Crater.

Even though this is just a legendary story, this is also what attracts tourists to visit Sikidang Crater. In fact, if we look deeper, this actually happened because of a volcanic eruption in the past, so the crater was formed.

A CRATER THAT LIKES TO MOVE

Apart from the legend that attracts attention, this crater is also phenomenal because at certain times, on average once every 4 years, the crater pool will move or seem to jump in one area like the character of the kidang animal (deer in Javanese) who likes to jump. . That is the origin of why this phenomenal crater is called Sikidang Crater

BEAUTIFUL TOURIST PLACE

When I first entered the crater, I was treated to rows of traditional traders selling unique goods, which are typical of Dieng. After that I saw big letters that said "SIKIDANG CRATER". Without thinking, we took a picture by positioning our bodies parallel to the letters.

Upon arrival we were immediately presented with a crater filled with smoke, it was very clear that it was very hot. Therefore, it is high in sulfur or sulfur content and other toxic substances. Visitors are also advised to wear masks because the smell of the gas that comes out is very strong and poisonous. Because of the large amount of gas coming out, visitors are prohibited from lighting fires or throwing cigarette butts around the crater because it could trigger an explosion. So, visitors are asked to obey the signs in the crater.

Sikidang Crater is a tourist attraction that is visited by many people. Not only because of the crater but also the many cool and amazing photo spots. There are even owls that are rented out for taking photos, which will make your photos seem mystical.

This crater is hot enough to cook the soaked eggs. The soil around the crater turns white because of its sulfur content. That is why when in the Sikidang Crater area visitors will see whitish barren land. This is because trees died due to crater activity. Apart from that, there are holes from crater pools at various points. The soil around the crater is also very fragile, if you are not careful the ground can collapse and visitors can fall into the boiling crater pool. But this is still considered safe, because the entire side of the crater is bordered by a fence. Many tourists from outside the city and even foreign countries come to visit.

When I came here with some of my friends, we really enjoyed this amazing view. With so many photo spots, we took several pictures for our memories after arriving home. The entrance ticket is $1.5 and can be used to visit Arjuna Temple which I previously discussed.
