Both Quitinday Hills and Sumlang Lake are emerging tourist destinations in the town of Camalig, in the province of Albay. Quitinday Hills is located in the town of Camalig, while Sumlang Lake is in the town of Daraga. These two tourist attractions are becoming increasingly popular these days as some travelers share their travel adventures on social media. I didn’t know about these places but thanks to these travelers since they gave me the idea to see these attractions.
I first visited Quitinday Hills. I did some trekking while going up there. Climbing up the hill was quite easy since the trails were already established from the base of the hill up to the top, so a guide is not necessary. There were two peaks there and the pathways are connected to each other and easy to follow. Once I reached the top, I was struck by the little bumps in the surroundings like the Chocolate Hills in Bohol. Then I understood why a lot of travelers go there because they don’t even need to catch a flight to go to Bohol just to see the famous Chocolate Hills. Quitinday Hills look like the hills in Bohol. On top of that, you will be rewarded by the stunning view of Mount Mayon but unfortunately the sky was overcast during my travel. Although I didn’t catch sight of the volcano, it was still a nice trekking experience with a stunning view from up there.
Following that, I visited Sumlang Lake in the nearby municipality. The lake offered me the opportunity to ride a floating bamboo raft with an umbrella which glided me over the water and allowed me to take in the amazing view of Mount Mayon. That time the sky was a bit less cloudy, so the volcano revealed its perfect cone shape. I believe that this man-made lake was created to feature the volcano from there, thereby attracting more visitors to the town. Overall, it was indeed a relaxing boat ride experience around the lake.
I conclude that the proximity of Mayon volcano to these two tourist spots made them popular. I hope I can visit them again in the future and see the new development in the area.
