Hi Everyone,

The land of Akihabara is the dream of many gadget and anime lovers. When you tell someone you are going to Tokyo, they will for sure to tell you visit this wonderland full of gadgets, games, doll figures, and all. Before having the kids, Hubby and I would spend hours at stores finding our childhood memories and taking them home with us (if it wasn't too expensive). This time, we took the kids here again (they've been before but they are more into anime now so know what we are looking for) on the weekend so we can make good use of the safe roads on the main strip as no cars are allowed during that period.

We all had a purpose for going there, Hubby to check out some anime models, kids wanted to check out the arcade games and find anything Pokemon related, and I, to find the special hair dryer I wanted but that can take 240V cos many of the ones I liked were only made for Japanese voltage. We got off the train and headed straight to BIC camera first which we were told may have stock from another stock and luckily they did have what I wanted. They even had two colours I could choose from which was amazing. It wasn't cheap, after tax deduction it was still $250+AUD but it's worth it as the hair dryer doesn't dry out your hair in a harsh way I've tried this at some Japanese hotels, and it's amazing.

After buying the hairdryer, Hubby went to check out all the toy stores. He got a few bits and pieces and the amount of shops are amazing. I do find that there were less than maybe 10 years ago, mainly big brands like Yodabashi is a big competitor with great prices so people may have been looking elsewhere. For ultra-old/vintage stuff, Akihabara is still the place to be. We walked down the road and took a few photos before heading to the arcade.

Our kids don't get many arcade gaming opportunities in Australia mainly because it is too expensive for a game. It costs around $2-3 for basic games and it will cost us a fortune to just play a few games with the two of them. In Japan, most games are still 100 yen ($1AUD) so we let the kids try what they want. The whole family actually stayed in the arcade for some time (yes Hubby and I played ourselves too) so it felt like we didn't spend too much but had so much fun. The kids are saying they will be saving all their money to go back to Japan to play more arcade games. They are actually machines we don't see back at home that I like for example, music tapping machines, dancing with the character on screen games, and so on. You get so much out of the 100-200 yen you pay for, it's so amazing!

After a full day of buying things and playing, it's time to find a place to have dinner. We will be back in Japan in 2 months so I can't wait to bring the kids back to these places and let them enjoy themselves.

Look at all those masks!

Yes before COVID they wore a lot of masks already but they still do now .... though to be fair, their masks are very comfy .... the boys and I actually don't mind wearing ours the whole day, didn't really feel like it was bothering us

That would be a paradise for my friend's daughter.. she loves anime! It's interesting how it's taking over the world, even in my small hometown in Slovakia 😊

oh yes anime has taken every part of the world, we love it here in Australia~

Oh it was a great day full of fun for you and your family.

it was definatley a great day out

This is really beautiful dear. It's lovely that you can enjoy yourself in a place with your family. The beautiful smile on your face shows it. I do hope to visit Japan one day and Akihabara, no less!🤗

I hope you can visit there one day as well. thanks for coming by :)

How nice that everyone was able to enjoy this great trip especially your kids were able to have a lot of fun for a low cost.

It was definitely a fun trip with the kids :)

You're right, Akihabara is a heaven of gadget and anime lovers. It looks so colorful and busy over there. If I were a kid, I would have spent a day there.

haha you can still spend a day there .... I'm sure you will still enjoy it even we are 'adult kids" now
