Hi Everyone,

There are so many gems around Tennoji. We came across a small Buddhist temple called 如意山 藤次寺, literally right in the middle of residential buildings and facing a busy street. This temple is not big but enough to make your prayers and wishes as you are walking home or towards the station. We found that many local Japanese people will visit temples and shrines as they are walking to work or school and quickly leave after they have completed their wishes/offerings.

We walked in and as you can see, the background is the residential high rises but for some reason, the whole temple was very very quiet. The smell of incense filled the area. There is a little building for the attendant to take your money for incense and charm purchases.

This little temple has a bell for you to ring before you make your prayers. We always have spare coins to give as offerings and the kids would know the correct way of making their wish. The plants and trees inside the temple were very well maintained. The gravel path was brushed to perfection so we reminded BB M to not walk onto the gravel leaving any marks.

The temple was small but enough for the locals. It was a nice little place to stop over after a busy morning for us in the middle of a very busy suburb. If you are going to Japan, make sure to look out for little shrines and temples, these are the gems of this beautiful country.
