Crossing the Singapore-Malaysia Border

in Pinmapple3 years ago (edited)
To be at two places at once. Who can forget this, one of Jamie's bucketlist in the novel A walk to remember. Since I watched the film, I have always wanted that too, cross borders and for a while be at two places at once. I had my first crossing border experience when we went to Malaysia for a day, we took a bus ride from Singapore and crossed the Johor-Singapore Causeway. It is where the Singaporean and Malaysian territories meet.

A day in Johor Bahru

Since we had only one day to explore the place closest to the border, we just simply went walked along the streets and visited some nearby temples. The times I have visited temples are almost the same, I see the consistency on how temples are built with so much details. Some temples allow the use of camera inside and some strictly prohibit it, well because, people go there to pray. In my visits, I always get to see locals having their prayer time. It's amazing to see it right in front your eyes, you see the different religions and cultures of that place. That's one of the gifts of traveling to foreign places, you get to see the diversity of the world we live in. There's beauty on diversity, I remember that wonderful thought that experiencing the different is something we should not miss, and that it is worthwhile.

We ended our day trip in this famous restaurant, I've been familiar with OldTown white coffee since it's a popular instant coffee in Singapore but I have never thought that it's a restaurant too. The place was such a treat for someone like me who loves to drink coffee. They offer not the instant drink but various selection of coffee from the plain americano to lattes. It was also my first time tasting an authentic Malaysian dish.

Exploring a part of Malaysia in one day made me want to go back to that place some day again, hopefully soon. There's so many places we can go to, places that are waiting for us to see. And of course, we'll be crossing borders a lot of times too.
