Hey guys! Having already explored Chicago and New York last year and San Francisco as recently as April, I couldn't wait to visit the next US metropolis. This time I went to the Pacific Northwest to spend a few days in Seattle. Of course, I don't want to keep my impressions from you, but share them with you in the upcoming posts. In this article, I'll show you a few architectural highlights, as well as a glimpse of the streets of downtown Seattle.
Hallo Leute! Nachdem ich letztes Jahr schon Chicago und New York und erst im April San Francisco erkundet habe, konnte ich es kaum erwarten, die nächste US-amerikanische Metropole zu besuchen. Diesmal zog es mich in den pazifischen Nordwesten, um ein paar Tage in Seattle zu verbringen. Meine Eindrücke möchte ich euch natürlich nicht vorenthalten, sondern in den kommenden Beiträgen mit euch teilen. In diesem Post zeige ich euch ein paar architektonische Highlights, sowie einen Einblick in die Straßen von Downtown Seattle.
To mention some basics first: Seattle is a vibrant and eclectic city in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Known for its stunning natural beauty, the city is surrounded by mountains and water, making it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. The iconic Space Needle, a futuristic observation tower, is a must-visit attraction. Seattle is also famous for its thriving tech industry, with companies like Microsoft and Amazon headquartered in the area. The city's coffee culture is legendary, with the original Starbucks store located in Pike Place Market. Whether you're exploring the historic neighborhoods, enjoying fresh seafood, or taking in the music scene, Seattle offers a diverse and exciting urban experience.
Kurz das Wesentliche zur Stadt selbst: Seattle ist eine lebendige und vielseitige Stadt im pazifischen Nordwesten der Vereinigten Staaten. Bekannt für ihre atemberaubende natürliche Schönheit ist die Stadt von Bergen und Wasser umgeben und somit ein Paradies für Outdoor-Enthusiasten. Das ikonische Space Needle, ein futuristischer Aussichtsturm, ist eine Sehenswürdigkeit, die man unbedingt besuchen sollte. Seattle ist auch berühmt für seine blühende Tech-Branche, mit Unternehmen wie Microsoft und Amazon, die in der Region ansässig sind. Die Kaffeekultur der Stadt ist legendär, mit dem ursprünglichen Starbucks-Laden im Pike Place Market. Ob man die historischen Viertel erkundet, frische Meeresfrüchte genießt oder die Musikszene erlebt, Seattle bietet eine vielfältige und aufregende urbane Erfahrung.
One of my absolute favourite buildings in the city is the Public Library – a striking architectural gem located in downtown Seattle. Designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, this innovative and modern library is a testament to the city's commitment to education and culture. The library's unique glass and steel structure is a sight to behold, and it has received numerous architectural awards. Inside, visitors can explore a vast collection of books, digital resources, and multimedia materials. The building offers stunning views of the city from its many windows and balconies, making it a popular spot for both book enthusiasts and architecture lovers.
Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsgebäude der Stadt ist die Public Library – ein beeindruckendes architektonisches Juwel im Zentrum von Seattle. Entworfen vom niederländischen Architekten Rem Koolhaas, ist diese innovative und moderne Bibliothek ein Zeugnis für das Engagement der Stadt für Bildung und Kultur. Die einzigartige Glas- und Stahlstruktur der Bibliothek ist ein Anblick, der viele Architekturpreise erhalten hat. Im Inneren können Besucher eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Büchern, digitalen Ressourcen und Multimedia-Materialien erkunden. Das Gebäude bietet atemberaubende Ausblicke auf die Stadt von seinen zahlreichen Fenstern und Balkonen und ist somit ein beliebter Ort sowohl für Buchliebhaber als auch Architekturbegeisterte.
The Spheres are also located in downtown Seattle. They are a remarkable architectural highlight created by Amazon. These massive glass domes are home to a unique urban rainforest, providing Amazon employees with a serene and green workspace. Inside, you'll find a diverse array of plant species, cascading waterfalls, and even treehouse meeting spaces. It's a striking example of the blending of nature and technology, creating a harmonious environment for work and relaxation. Unfortunately I couldn’t visit the inside of the Spheres, as they are open for public only on two days per month.
Die Spheres, die sich ebenfalls in der Innenstadt befinden, sind ein bemerkenswertes architektonisches Highlight, das von Amazon geschaffen wurde. Diese massiven Glaskuppeln beherbergen einen einzigartigen städtischen Regenwald und bieten den Mitarbeitern von Amazon einen ruhigen und grünen Arbeitsplatz. Im Inneren findet man eine vielfältige Auswahl an Pflanzenarten, plätschernde Wasserfälle und sogar Besprechungsräume in Baumhausoptik. Es handelt sich um ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel für die Verschmelzung von Natur und Technologie, das eine harmonische Umgebung für Arbeit und Entspannung schafft. Leider konnte ich das Innere der Spheres nicht besichtigen, da sie nur an zwei Tagen im Monat für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich sind.
I would also describe the area around the Spheres as the most modern and well-kept in the city centre. Here you will also find the unique Amazon Go Store, where you simply check in and pay with an Amazon account. On my first evening, I had the opportunity to watch a fantastic sunset. For this, I went to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the city.
Den Bereich um die Spheres herum würde ich auch als den modernsten und gepflegtesten der Innenstadt bezeichnen. Hier findet man auch den einzigartigen Amazon Go Store, in dem man einfach mit einem Amazon-Account eincheckt und bezahlt. Gleich an meinem ersten Abend hatte ich die Gelegenheit einen traumhaften Sonnenuntergang zu beobachten. Dafür begab ich mich an einen der schönsten Aussichtspunkte der Stadt.
The viewpoint is located at the harbour, more precisely at Pier 66, where you can admire a stunning view of the downtown skyscrapers and the imposing Mount Rainier in the background. The landscape around Seattle is really breathtaking and reminded me partly of my home country, Austria. The view was also particularly beautiful at blue hour, when the city lights were reflected in the water against a deep blue sky.
Der Aussichtspunkt befindet sich am Hafen, genauer gesamt am Pier 66. Hier kann man einen umwerfenden Blick auf die Wolkenkratzer der Innenstadt, sowie den imposanten Mount Rainier im Hintergrund bewundern. Die Landschaft um Seattle herum ist wirklich atemberaubend und erinnerte mich teilweise an meine Heimat, Österreich. Besonders schön war die Aussicht auch zur blauen Stunde, als sich die Lichter der Stadt im Wasser vor einem tiefblauen Himmel spiegelten.
Seattle really excited and fascinated me from the beginning. But the city has much more to offer than I have shown you in this post. In the next one, I'll tell you about more highlights.

Hope you got a chance to visit the neighborhoods outside of downtown (like Ballard, West Seattle, Freemont, Wallingford) and to see some of the nearby nature spots (riding a ferry, visiting the mountains). 💚
How cool! 😃 I was in Freemont and saw the Freemont Troll 😄 Unfortunately I only had time for the Highlights of the city. Also I had a lot of rain, but I hope I can come back and explore more of your beautiful home soon 🤩
