Diving in the Aegean Sea and how I managed to overcome the fear of water

in Pinmapple3 years ago

Hello hivers,

In this post I will tell you how I managed to overcome my fear of water.

Being on vacation with my wife in the Paralia Katerini in Greece, I decided to try some of the activities presented by the local guide.

Of all choices I had, I was curious about the idea of diving in the Aegean Sea, this being a challenge for me because I don't know how to swim and I'm afraid of water.

I encouraged myself and I paid the fee for the services. The whole adventure was around 100 euros for 2 people.

The fee includes:

● training

● diving at a depth of about 10m for a period of 45-50 minutes

● underwater footage

● diving equipment

● transportation

The location where the diving took place is called Platamonas, which is a resort on the shores of the Aegean Sea, about 37km from Katerini. The next morning at 8 o'clock, in front of the hotel, a minivan was waiting for us, which took us over and transferred us to the location where we would start the adventure.

Once we've got there, the very nice staff trained us in English, German and Greek, because we were from differently countries.

We had to carefully pay attention to the directios they gave us in order to understand what we have to do during the dive.

At first sight, it didn't seem complicated at all, but the surprise came right in the moment I had the equipment on me and I started to do the first steps underwater. I panicked and I wanted to give up. The instructor’s experience mattered a lot, succeeding in convincing me not to give up.

After a few attempts I finally managed to gradually dive from the beach in Platamonas up to 10m. The underwater silence and the images with jellyfish, fish and octopuses made me forget all my fears, time passing very quickly.

Our day ended on the beach at sunset . This experience helped me to overcome my fear of water.
