Dear friends, today we are continuing our amazing trip in Thailand. We are on the beautiful island of Koh Samui. After an incredible day at Pig Island, we headed to Coco Tams. Coco Tams is an on-the-beach restaurant that puts on a spectacular fire show. I had heard that of the several places on Koh Samui that offer fire shows, this was the best. What's more, it's free!!
On the way to the show
Coco Tams puts on two shows a night, one at 7.15pm and the other at 9pm. You cannot make a reservation for the show, so it is first come, first served. We arrived for the start of the 7.15pm show and were advised that there were no more seats available but to come back about 20 mins prior to the 9pm show. So we explored the area that was filled with a variety of shops and restaurants. I managed to pick up the cutest pair of flip-flops, as I had lost mine earlier in the day on Pig Island. Before we knew it, it was time to head to the show. We were super surprised that when we arrived back at Coco Tams at 8.40pm, we were seated at the very front of the beach directly in front of the middle performance table. There are three performance tables along the beachfront. These bean bag seats are right on the beach; it's beautiful.
We ordered delicious food & drinks
Seated in the prime spot on the beach, we felt incredibly fortunate as we received our menus. I opted for a delectable vegan potato pizza paired with refreshing watermelon juice, while Terrance chose succulent sticky skewers accompanied by rice and a crafted cocktail. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, even informing me that another dish I was considering contained fish sauce, demonstrating their attentiveness to dietary requirements. Just as we began to savour our meal, the incredible performers commenced their mesmerising show.
The performers interact with the audience
We were thoroughly thrilled by the performers' engaging crowd work. Having both worked as entertainers on international cruise liners, Terrance and I found this an absolutely delightful touch. They twirled their fire sticks above my head and jestingly threatened to singe Terrance's nether regions, leaving us all in stitches.
Everything about the show, from the choreography to the music, was amazing. The show built momentum by starting us off and literally warming us up with single acts. As time progressed, more and more performers were added, and the transitions between acts were incredibly smooth.
The 30-minute performance was thoroughly engaging and captivating from start to finish. As we relaxed in our front-row bean bag chairs, we couldn't help but feel it was almost criminal that such an exceptional show was free of charge.
As the performance progressed, the array of fire tricks and stunts became increasingly impressive. With the sea as a backdrop and illuminated solely by moonlight and the performers' flames, the atmosphere was utterly mesmerising. At one point, they invited a smoker from the audience to join in. Neither Terrance nor I smoke, so we couldn't participate. A volunteer stepped forward, and the performers astonishingly lit a cigarette directly in her mouth while she remained seated—a feat that left us thoroughly impressed.
Just when we thought the evening couldn't get any better, the performers unveiled a breathtaking finale. Positioned on a platform that sits in the sea, they twirled their fire sticks amidst a dazzling display of fireworks. It was one of the most captivating things I've ever seen, and experiencing it live was simply incredible. So captivated by the performance that our meals and drinks remained unfinished until the show ended. There were servers available throughout, should anyone wish to order more. After the final act and finishing our meal, we requested the bill, once again amazed that our only expense was the delicious food and drinks we enjoyed.

As someone who lives on Samui, this is where we always take guests who come to visit us. It's an amazing show but as I sit there watching, I can't stop wondering exactly how many litres of petrol they through each night!
