Pueblo Abandonado y Polvorines
This time I'm going to tell you about a route I did with some biker friends, this time my mount was my Suzuki B-King, although this route was more about walking than riding a motorbike, but it's not against doing both things at the same time.
Esta vez os voy a contar sobre una ruta que hice con unos amigos moteros, esta vez mi montura fue mi Suzuki B-King, aunque esta ruta fue mas de andar que de ir en moto pero no esta reñido hacer las dos cosas a la vez.
The village I am talking about is called Villanueva de Jalón, very close to the city of Zaragoza (Spain). This village was abandoned around the middle of the 20th century, as very few people lived there and it was difficult to access, it can only be reached on foot as it is on top of a small mountain. We had to leave the motorbikes at the bottom of the road and climb up to it, with the motorbike equipment walking through this terrain is a bit more tiring as it weighs more than normal clothes and reduces mobility.
El pueblo del que hablo se llama Villanueva de Jalón, muy cerca de la ciudad de Zaragoza (España). Este pueblo fue abandonado hacia la mitad del siglo XX, ya que vivía muy poquita gente y era de difícil acceso, solo se puede llegar a pie ya que esta en lo alto de una pequeña montaña. Nosotros tuvimos que dejar las motos abajo a pie de la carretera y subir hasta el, con la equipación de moto andar por estos terrenos es algo mas cansado ya que pesa mas que la ropa normal y reduce algo la movilidad.
Climbing up we reached what could be called the town square, one of the few flat parts of the place. As there was practically nobody around, we left our helmets behind so as not to carry them and to be able to explore the abandoned houses a little.From above you could see our bikes.
Subiendo llegamos a lo que se le podría llamar la plaza del pueblo, de las pocas partes llanas que tiene el lugar. Como no había prácticamente nadie dejamos los cascos para no cargar con ellos y así poder explorar un poco las casas abandonadas. Desde arriba se podían ver nuestras motos.
We continued up its steep and steep streets to reach the top of that small village, our objective was to reach the church and who knows what else that forgotten place would have in store for us.
Seguimos subiendo por sus escarpadas calles bastante empinadas para dirigirnos a lo alto de aquel pequeño pueblo, nuestro objetivo era llegar a la iglesia y quien sabe que mas cosas nos depararía aquel olvidado lugar.
We arrived at the church of which the arches and little else remains, its roof is gone. The scenery is really beautiful from here, so I took the opportunity to spend some time here, enjoy the surroundings and explore the place a bit.
Llegamos a la iglesia de la cual quedan los arcos y poco mas, su techo ya no está. El paisaje es realmente bonito desde aquí, así que aproveche para pasar un tiempo aquí, disfrutar del entorno y explorar un poco el lugar.
From here we continue ascending, behind the church was the cemetery, much higher up the ruins of the castle of which practically nothing remains, there comes a point where it becomes somewhat dangerous to advance as you would almost have to climb half way up, but the views are even more impressive.
Desde aquí continuamos ascendiendo, detrás de la iglesia se situaba el cementerio, mucho mas arriba las ruinas del castillo de las que no quedan prácticamente nada, llega un punto que se vuelve algo peligroso avanzar ya que casi prácticamente tendrías que medio escalar, pero las vistas son aun mas impresionantes.
Up from the viewpoint we can see the village and its surroundings, so we realise how isolated the village seems to be and how steep the terrain is. It is normal that the last two remaining couples decided to leave, living day to day must have been really hard.
Arriba desde el mirador podemos observar el pueblo y sus alrededores, así nos daremos cuenta de lo aislado que parece estar el pueblo y lo escarpado del terreno. Normal que los dos últimos matrimonios que quedaban decidieran irse, vivir el día a día debía ser realmente duro.
It is time to start the descent and head to the next place, it is a place I always wanted to go and it was a bit hidden. They were the old Campiel powder magazines, they have not been used for more than 20 years, these army facilities were used to store ammunition and weapons. They are large galleries dug into the mountain with the appearance of a bunker.
Es hora de comenzar el descenso y dirigirnos al siguiente lugar, es un sitio que siempre quise ir y estaba algo escondido. Eran los antiguos polvorines de Campiel, llevan mas de 20 años sin usarse, estas instalaciones del ejercito servían para guardar la munición y armamento. Son unas grandes galerías excavadas en la montaña con aspecto de bunker.

Its interior was dark and dimly lit, but I went inside a couple of them. The echo was amazing and invited me to play with it for a while. In one of them I found two burnt out cars, I don't know how the poor things ended up there.
Su interior era oscuro y poco iluminado, pero me adentre en un par de ellos. El eco era asombroso e invitaba a jugar con el un buen rato. En uno de ellos me encontré dos coches quemados, no se como acabaron ahí los pobres.
The area was also quite beautiful and I saw a few cars passing by for picnics as there is a river right next to it. Today I came back to this place and they had closed the road, apparently they have sold the land with all that goes with it, it's a real shame.
La zona también era bastante bonita y vi pasar unos cuantos coches cerca para hacer picnic ya que hay un rio justo al lado. Actualmente volví a este lugar y habían cerrado el camino, parece ser que han vendido los terrenos con todo lo que conlleva, es una verdadera pena.

What an amazing place! I wonder how and why people decided to live so remote in the first place, and built such intricate buildings at the same time. Do you think the new owners will demolish these remaining buildings? It will be such a pity if they did
I believe that this town will never be inhabited again, in Spain many towns are increasingly abandoned and people move to the big cities, it's a shame because living in a rural environment is very nice, but job opportunities are few. Thank you very much for commenting!
