Good beautiful PINMAPPLE community.

I am walking along the most beautiful promenade in Havana called Paseo del Prado, and one of the old structures that most caught my attention was this beautiful work of art currently called Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso. Since I divided it in the distance, I felt that I wanted to appreciate its imposing facade, to see very closely how this beautiful jewel, which in the heart of Havana stands as a monument that resists the passage of time.

So if you were impressed by this cover as much as I was, join me to learn more about it...

This large building was rebuilt between 1907 and 1914 under the tutelage of the Belgian architect Paul Beleu. This great theater was postulated as the oldest in operation in the entire western hemisphere, something that fills lovers of Cuban heritage with pride, built with a neo-baroque touch that distinguishes it, telling every detail of this its own story.

This beautiful construction located on the Paseo del Prado, shares with the energy of the boulevard of San Rafael on one side, on the other with the beautiful Capitol of Havana in front of the Central Park, forming a good ensemble that talks about our cultural identity, a scene of architecture that distills history and beauty.

Undoubtedly a beautiful place to treat, so my wife doesn’t stop posing having this beautiful view.

When I saw the details of the construction, I couldn’t help but marvel at this historic building that emanates from its foundations. In 1834, Miguel Tacón y Rosique commissioned the construction of the Tacón Theater, predecessor of the current Gran Teatro. That original theater, inaugurated in 1838, was the scene of unforgettable nights such as the play “Don Juan de Austria”, headed by the prominent Cuban actor Francisco Covarrubias.

The reconstruction in 1914, after the acquisition by the Society of Charity of Naturals of Galicia in 1906, marked the beginning of a new architectural era. Paul Beleu, with his genius, gave life to a complex that would not only be a theater but a multifaceted space. The Spanish or French Renaissance style, with baroque touches, is reflected in each of its corners, from the white marble sculptures that represent Charity, Education, Music and Theater, to the details of balconies and windows that give life to an elegant harmony.

The main room, renamed Federico García Lorca, is presented as a treasure with capacity for 1,500 people. It is in this scenario that the National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of Alicia Alonso, displays its art, bringing with it the essence of our dance and culture to international levels. The other rooms, such as the Sala Lecuona, and spaces such as Café Adagio, add to the charm of the Gran Teatro, offering a range of artistic experiences.

The recognition of the Council of State in 2015, by calling the theater the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, added a nuance of emotion and commitment to our rich cultural heritage.

This denomination not only honors the dancer, but also highlights the unique connection between history and contemporaneity, not only by day you can admire this great building, at night it dazzles almost everything that surrounds it, you have to look at it yes or yes, this wonder that resists time and continues to inspire lovers of beauty and history.
