culture is the the way of life of people from different region,and talking about this it can be the way some part in the world dress, eat, the language they speak and the rest. There are different cultural patterns, sub cultures with values, attitudes, norms and behaviour which are different from each other. The general classification of culture involve people with similar characteristics. Now talking about the cultural stereotypes it can be joined with other cultural religion, gender, race or age.

So i will be talking about the general culture of Ekiti state. Ekiti is one of the state in Nigeria and each part in the country has different way of life. One of the stereotypes common among people to ekiti people is STUBBORNNESS. This really has been in existence for years.

For me I do hear people do say all those that come from Ekiti are always born with the nature of being stubborn because am from Ekiti state and i always find it difficult to believe because not everyone who is from Ekiti is born with the nature of being stubborn.

There was a day in my school something happened like a teacher sent a student home for not paying up his school fees at due time, the teacher who didn't check well call the boy name mistakenly because it look alike not knowing he has paid his school fees,the boy was very young and had to trek home on getting home he met his dad at home. Angrily the man got up and head to the school, he got to the school gate banged the door and started shouting looking for that teacher.

Other teachers were trying to calm him down just to reduce his temper but he proved stubborn. Some of the teachers were already saying this man is from Ekiti because of the stubborn nature he showcase but not sure, his act shows it all eventually when his temper came down the headmaster was force to ask his state and he said Ekiti.

Actually there can be alot of people from Ekiti who are not of the nature of being stubborn but because of the way they always see things they categories all people from Ekiti together. The mindset can be changed because for me am not a stubborn type and i came from Ekiti which makes me understand more better.

That's funny, so Ekiti have stubborn people? I have not stayed in Ekiti for a long, I may not know if that's true or generalize an individual's case to others. Even if a fraction of it is true, not everyone will be that stubborn

Yeah, stereotype are usually not true about everyone
I have also heard the same thing about Ondo/Ekiti people. This sort of cultural stereotyping is wrong and oftentimes incorrect. There are friends from this states that I know who are quite gentle and well behaved. If I had followed the stereotyping, it would have affected my relationship with them.
I believe it's about time we evolve beyond any form of stereotyping and choose to understand people individually, rather than follow any kind of labeling or generalization. Nicely written. 🙂
