In the official D&D adventure, the water cult's boss had the name "Gar Shatterkeel". So I thought having his real name being "Gary" just seemed perfect... make him into just another loser schmuck trying to reinvent himself into something more bad-ass or important than he really is. Some such people manage to spin that into a middle management job position at the local car dealership, while others turn it into a world-domination cult leadership sort of thing. Hard to say which one is worse... 😁
