It seems contracting in some industries can be lucrative. I don't know what he was making, but I worked with a guy who flew over to England from Northern Ireland each week and was paying to rent a room and pay for airport parking at each end. That may have been more a matter of lack of suitable jobs nearer home. I'm sure others really milk companies.

The defense industry is probably the worst when it comes to contractors and wasting money (at least speaking for the US). With my last job, actual work was maybe 2 hours out of the day... the rest of the time was spent holding down a desk and doodling drawings like this. 😉
