"Crazy" volunteers in France... або як українці у Франції дістають автівки для ЗСУ.

Small things make a big victory! And we can see every day how Ukrainians in Ukraine and abroad are moving towards the goal step by step, helping each other financially and with their actions. Sometimes it may seem to us that our help is like a drop in the sea... But without those thousands of drops, there would be no sea! And today I will proudly tell you about my friend Vadim, who is part of a charity organization "Army Relief Fund"! You know, war brought out the best in people. From the first day of the war, Vadim decided to stay in Ukraine and continue to work for Ukraine where he is and what he does best. This is heroism. So modest and inconspicuous, in the rear... without which victory is impossible!

One day, Vadim told me about a team of guys who organized the necessary movement.
In France, everyone already knows the "crazy" Ukrainians: how volunteers get cars for the Armed Forces. At a time when large charitable funds for the aid of the army are collecting money for "Bayraktars" and are already considering the delivery of heavy weapons to the front, thousands of "small" volunteer groups continue to operate in Ukraine, helping specific units or their friends on the front lines. One of these associations of caring Ukrainians will be discussed in my post.
The war currently being waged by Ukraine is truly a people's war: a struggle not only for the independence of the state, but also for the preservation of its national identity, which the enemy seeks to destroy. One of the phenomena of this war that affects the whole world is the phenomenon of Ukrainian civil society. The volunteer movement in support of the army, which was born back in 2014, in fact, during the Revolution of Dignity, has reached a new level since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The largest volunteer funds currently operate with funds that previously could only be disposed of by the state. Since February 24, donations in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - from both Ukrainians and foreigners - have become massive. The main amount of such donations went to the accounts of the most famous charitable foundations. Thanks to media recognition, such organizations inspire people's trust.

The scale of activities of some charitable funds to help the army is simply amazing. Thus, the "Return Alive" fund - one of the most famous such organizations - in the first two months of the full-scale war, purchased almost 3,000 unmanned aerial vehicles and drones, more than 4,300 thermal imagers and night vision devices, more than 17,000 means of communication, more than 5,000 laptops and tablets, more than 17 thousand body armor, 77 cars. The total amount of purchases amounted to over one billion 900 million hryvnias.

The projects of large funds are becoming more and more ambitious. At the beginning of July, "Return Alive" volunteers purchased more than 100 Latvian-made Atlas drones for the needs of the Armed Forces. Before that, 25 modern Leleka unmanned systems were handed over to the army. At the end of June, the charitable foundation brought 100 new pickup trucks to Ukraine for units on the front line.
Volunteers are not limited to the purchase of drones and cars. On June 21, the "Return Alive" Facebook page reported that they were the first among Ukrainian volunteers to receive permission to purchase lethal weapons for the Armed Forces. These are attack drones, combat helicopters and ammunition. The amount of the first deals will be 20 million dollars.
On June 22, TV presenter and volunteer Serhii Prytula announced a fundraiser for three Bayraktar attack drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In three days, Ukrainians transferred more than 600 million hryvnias.

У Франції вже всі знають “скажених” українців”: як волонтери дістають автівки для ЗСУ. У той час, як великі благодійні фонди допомоги армії збирають гроші на “Байрактари” та вже розмірковують про постачання на фронт важкого озброєння, в Україні і далі діють тисячі “маленьких” волонтерських груп, які допомагають конкретним підрозділам чи своїм знайомим на передовій. Про одне з таких об’єднань небайдужих українців буде йти мова в моєму пості.
Війна, яку нині веде Україна – це справді народна війна: боротьба не лише за незалежність держави, а й за збереження своєї національної ідентичності, яку прагне знищити ворог. Одним із феноменів цієї війни, що вражає весь світ – це феномен українського громадянського суспільства. Волонтерський рух на підтримку армії, що зародився ще у 2014 році, фактично, ще під час Революції гідності, від початку повномасштабного російського вторгнення вийшов на новий рівень.
Найбільші волонтерські фонди нині оперують коштами, якими раніше могла розпоряджатися виключно держава. Починаючи з 24 лютого пожертви на підтримку Збройних сил України – як від українців, так і від іноземців – стали масовими. Основна сума таких пожертв надходила на рахунки найвідоміших благодійних фондів. Завдяки медійній впізнаваності такі організації викликають у людей довіру.
Масштаби діяльності деяких благодійних фондів допомоги армії просто вражають. Так, фонд “Повернись живим” – одна з найвідоміших таких організацій – лише за перших два місяці повномасштабної війни закупив майже 3 тисячі безпілотників і дронів, понад 4 тисячі 300 тепловізорів і приладів нічного бачення, понад 17 тисяч засобів зв’язку, понад 5 тисяч ноутбуків і планшетів, понад 17 тисяч бронежилетів, 77 автівок. Загальна сума закупівель склала понад мільярд 900 мільйонів гривень.

Проекти великих фондів стають дедалі амбіційнішими. На початку липня волонтери “Повернись живим” закупили для потреб ЗСУ понад 100 “натівських” безпілотників “Атлас” латвійського виробництва. Перед цим до війська передали 25 сучасних безпілотних комплексів “Лелека”. Наприкінці червня благодійний фонд привіз в Україну 100 нових пікапів для підрозділів на передовій.
Волонтери не обмежуються закупівлею дронів та автівок. 21 червня на сторінці “Повернись живим” у Facebook повідомили: вони першими серед українських волонтерів отримали дозвіл закуповувати летальну зброю для ЗСУ. Йдеться про ударні безпілотники, бойові гелікоптери та боєприпаси. Сума перших угод складе 20 мільйонів доларів.
22 червня телеведучий і волонтер Сергій Притула оголосив збір коштів на три ударні безпілотники “Байрактар” для Збройних сил України. За три доби українці перерахували понад 600 мільйонів гривень.

It seemed that in the presence of such powerful initiatives that accumulate hundreds of millions of hryvnias in their hands, the so-called "grassroots" volunteer movement should gradually die out and come to nothing. These are small organizations or individuals, often operating with their own funds, or collecting relatively small donations. They help, mainly, certain units, or their acquaintances, friends who are at the front.
There are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of such people engaged in "grassroots" volunteering in Ukraine. One of the centers where the most volunteers are concentrated is Lviv, which since the beginning of the full-scale war has become a logistics hub for supplying Ukraine from abroad with everything necessary for the army and people who suffered from Russian shelling. Lviv is full of work every day: a volunteer kitchen is working, camouflage nets are being woven, humanitarian aid is being collected. And near one of the Lviv auto repair shops there are cars that will soon go to the front to help Ukrainian soldiers. These cars were brought from France by local volunteers from the "Army Relief Fund".

Здавалося, що за наявності таких потужних ініціатив, що акумулюють у своїх руках сотні мільйонів гривень – поступово мав би відмерти та зійти нанівець так званий “низовий” волонтерський рух. Йдеться про маленькі організації чи окремих людей, що діють часто власним коштом, або ж збирають відносно невеликі пожертви. Допомагають, переважно, певним підрозділам, або ж своїм знайомим, друзям, які перебувають на фронті.
Таких людей, що займаються “низовим” волонтерством – в Україні тисячі, якщо не десятки тисяч. Один із центрів, де зосереджено найбільше волонтерів – це Львів, що від початку повномасштабної війни став логістичним хабом для постачання в Україну з-за кордону всього необхідного для армії та людей, які постраждали від російських обстрілів. У Львові щодня кипить робота: працює волонтерська кухня, плетуть маскувальні сітки, збирають гуманітарку. А біля однієї із львівських автомайстерень стоять автомобілі, що вже незабаром поїдуть на фронт – допомагати українських бійцям. Ці машини привезли із Франції місцеві волонтери – з “Фонду допомоги армії”.

That's where we caught her, says Oleg Yatsyshyn, a volunteer of the "Army Assistance Fund", showing the Ssang Yong car, which recently came to the Lviv service after covering 2.5 thousand kilometers. - In this condition, the car must be taken as soon as it appears in the ad. The French themselves do not disdain such a car."
Over the past few months, the man and his friends from the "Army Assistance Fund" have driven more than three dozen such cars from abroad. We had to literally "hunt" for each one: since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian volunteers created a huge demand for the European car market.
"In the south of France, there are still winegrowers and farmers who have extra cars. There has already been "word of mouth" that "sick" Ukrainians are coming and taking away all that rubbish", Oleg Yatsyshyn continues. According to him, most Europeans treat Ukrainian volunteers with understanding, sometimes they even "reduce" the price for a car.
"The French understand. Adequate French people. What's more, you can still bargain with the owners. This car, for example, was declared for around 4,000 euros, we bargained for about 500 euros. We are not ashamed, we bluntly say that it is for the war," he adds volunteer.
Vehicles on the front lines are necessary for our soldiers to be mobile and quickly maneuver in conditions of total superiority of the enemy in artillery. At the same time, the life of one car at the front is very short - from a few days to a month. All because of constant enemy shelling. Taking into account the fact that the Ukrainian auto industry is currently practically inactive, the state simply cannot cope with the volume of supplies needed by the military. Volunteers save the situation.
"We already have solid experience, because we were the first to take cars, then we transported them by truck. It turns out to be very expensive. Foreigners do not want to enter the territory of Ukraine. They load us under the border on the Polish side. And the two or three of us drive eight cars in a circle like that. This takes both resources and health, says Oleg Yatsyshyn. - And so we sit down and drive 2.5 thousand kilometers. It turns out that if the 2.5 thousand car traveled to Ukraine, then it will already be in service. Not only that: you have already figured out - something is wrong, the "check" has caught fire, some injector needs to be restored."

Отам ми там її вхопили, – розповідає волонтер “Фонду допомоги армії” Олег Яцишин, показуючи легковика Ssang Yong, який нещодавно приїхав на львівський сервіс, здолавши 2,5 тисячі кілометрів шляху. – В такому стані машину треба брати одразу, як тільки вона з'явилась в оголошенні. Такою автівкою і самі французи не гребують”.
За останні кілька місяців чоловік та його друзі з “Фонду допомоги армії” перегнали з-за кордону понад три десятки таких автівок. За кожною довелося буквально “полювати”: від початку війни українські волонтери створили величезний попит на авторинку Європи.
“На півдні Франції залишились ще виноградарі, фермери, які мають зайві автівки. Там вже пішло “сарафанне радіо”, що приїжджають “хворі” українці і забирають те все дрантя”, – веде далі мову Олег Яцишин. За його словами, більшість європейців ставляться до українських волонтерів з розумінням, іноді навіть “скидають” ціну за автомобіль.
"Французи розуміють. Адекватні французи. При чому з господарями ще можна поторгуватись. Ця машина, наприклад, була заявлена в районі 4 тисяч євро, десь 500 євро ми вторгували. Ми не соромимось, ми прямо кажемо, що це на війну”, – додає волонтер.
Автомобілі на передовій необхідні нашим воїнам, щоб бути мобільними та швидко маневрувати в умовах тотальної переваги ворога в артилерії. При цьому життя однієї автівки на фронті дуже коротке – від кількох днів до місяця. Все через постійні ворожі обстріли. Враховуючи те, що український автопром нині практично не працює, держава просто не може впоратися з обсягами постачань, які необхідні військовим. Рятують становище волонтери.
“В нас вже є сталий досвід, бо ми як перші машини брали, то везли їх автовозом. Це виходить дуже дорого. Іноземці не хочуть заїжджати на територію України. Вони завантажують нам під кордон на польській стороні. І ми двоє чи троє вісім машин возимо так по колу. Це забирає і ресурси, і здоров'я, – розповідає Олег Яцишин. – А так ми сідаємо і їдемо 2,5 тисячі кілометрів. Виходить, що якщо 2,5 тисячі машина проїхала до України, то вона вже буде служити. Мало того: ти вже розібрався – щось не так, “чек” загорівся, якусь форсунку треба відреставрувати”.

However, buying a car and bringing it to Ukraine is only half the story. Before being sent to the front, the machines need maintenance, painting and camouflage. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Lviv car repair shops have provided free services to volunteers helping the army. "This is our contribution to the victory," says Vadim, the owner of the car wrapping studio. Cars brought from abroad by volunteers get to it already after maintenance. The master shows an easy and inexpensive way to disguise the vehicle so that it does not become easy prey for the enemy at the front.
"We take perforated film, which is usually used by advertisers to cover the windows of trolleybuses. It is translucent and will well mask and camouflage the cars of our defenders, Vadim says. - Such a film can be ordered from any printing house. You need to ask for the color "olive". It is applied to the car extremely easily. We apply it as flat as possible to the window. And we roll it out with any rolling pin, a ruler, a credit card, any flat object."
Any car service can provide such a service, says the master. The film must be carefully smoothed. Next, cut off the excess with a clerical knife.
"A meter of this film costs approximately 100-120 hryvnias. It is easy to volunteer for any number of cars. And it serves as a good camouflage protection," adds Vadim.
The only small inconvenience that our soldiers will have to get used to is the steering wheel on the right side. This car, which is being pasted in a car service, was delivered from Ireland by the volunteers of the "Army Relief Fund". There are many such "British" in the fleet of the ZSU. All because of the lower cost of cars.

Проте придбати авто та привезти його в Україну – це лише половина справи. Перед відправленням на фронт машини потребують технічного обслуговування, фарбування та камуфлювання. Від початку повномасштабної війни львівські автосервіси безкоштовно надають послуги волонтерам, що допомагають армії. “Це наш внесок у перемогу”, – каже власник студії з обклеювання автівок Вадим. До нього автомобілі, завезені з-за кордону волонтерами, потрапляють вже після техобслуговування. Майстер показує легкий і недорогий спосіб замаскувати транспорт, щоб на фронті вона не стала легкою здобиччю ворога.
“Ми беремо перфоровану плівку, якою зазвичай рекламники обклеюють вікна тролейбусів. Вона напівпрозора і буде добре маскувати і камуфлювати автомобілі наших захисників, – розповідає Вадим. – Таку плівку можна замовити в будь-якій типографії. Просити треба колір “оливу”. Наноситься на авто вона надзвичайно легко. Ми її прикладаємо максимально рівно до вікна. І викочуємо будь-якою вигонкою, рателем, кредитною карткою, будь-яким пласким предметом”.
Таку послугу може надати будь-який автосервіс – каже майстер. Плівку потрібно ретельно розгладити. Далі обрізати зайве за допомогою канцелярського ножа.
“Метр цієї плівки коштує орієнтовно біля 100-120 гривень. Нескладно наволонтерити на будь-яку кількість автомобілів. І вона служить добрим камуфляжним захистом”, – додає Вадим.
Єдина маленька незручність, до якої прийдеться звикнути нашим воїнам – це кермо з правого боку. Цю автівку, яку обклеюють в автосервісі, волонтери “Фонду допомоги армії” доправили з Ірландії. Таких “британців” у автопарку ЗСУ – чимало. Все – через меншу вартість машин.

"It turns out to be an order of magnitude cheaper than a car bought in Europe," says the director of the "Army Assistance Fund" Roman Futz. - The difference of one and a half to two thousand dollars - in each car. For the same money, you can do more good things."
"A specific fighter will receive help"
Roman Futs is one of the many Ukrainian volunteers. For the Lviv businessman, the help of the army has been an integral part of his life for eight years.
"We started volunteering back in 2014 with friends, and now, in connection with the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, we intensively continued this work," says the director of the charitable foundation. - At the beginning, they bought everything that was available, because there was a problem with everything. Starting with thermal training, ending with elementary summaries, unloading. They collected everything: from ammunition to food and personal hygiene items. Equipment was bought abroad - mainly in England. These were unloading, helmets, bulletproof vests, turnstiles. Many good things were brought to our boys at the front.
Roman founded the "Army Relief Fund" charity organization together with his friends a few months ago. Despite such a loud name, the fund currently functions exclusively at the expense of the volunteers' own savings. We decided to legislate our activities, because this allows us to improve coordination with other volunteer associations.
"Creation of the fund enabled us to contact foreign organizations to establish cooperation," says Roman Futs.

“На порядок дешевше виходить, ніж автомобіль, куплений в Європі, – розповідає директор “Фонду допомоги армії” Роман Фуц. – Різниця у півтори-дві тисячі доларів – у кожному автомобілі. За ті самі гроші можна зробити більше гарних справ”.
“Допомогу отримає конкретний боєць”
Роман Фуц – один із безлічі українських волонтерів. Для львівського підприємця допомога армії – це невід’ємна частина життя вже впродовж восьми років.
“Волонтерством ми почали займатися ще в 2014 році колом друзів і зараз у зв'язку з повномасштабним вторгненням Російської Федерації на територію України ми інтенсивно продовжували цю справу, – зазначає директор благодійного фонду. – На початках купували все, що було, тому що проблема була зі всім. Починаючи з термобілизни, закінчуючи елементарними підсумками, розгрузками. Збирали все: від амуніції до продуктів харчування і предметів особистої гігієни. Спорядження купували за кордоном – в основному, в Англії. Це були розгрузки, шоломи, бронежилети, турнікети. Багато всіляких хороших речей привезли нашим хлопцям на “передку”.
Благодійну організацію "Фонд допомоги армії" Роман заснував разом з друзями кілька місяців тому. Попри таку гучну назву – фонд наразі функціонує виключно за рахунок власних заощаджень волонтерів. Свою діяльність вирішили законодавчо оформити, бо це дозволяє поліпшити координацію з іншими волонтерськими об’єднаннями.
“Створення фонду дало нам змогу контактувати з закордонними організаціями для налагодження співпраці”, – каже Роман Фуц.

And the projects of large funds with multi-million dollar budgets, and small initiatives, and even 100 hryvnias transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - all this brings our victory over the aggressor closer. Victory will consist of the sum of efforts, the sum of the initiatives of millions of Ukrainians. The popular movement in support of the army, colorful and heterogeneous, is another example of the Ukrainian people's incredible ability to self-organize. This is what makes a free society stronger than authoritarian regimes.

І проєкти великих фондів з багатомільйонними бюджетами, і маленькі ініціативи, і навіть 100 гривень, перерахованих на потреби Збройних сил України – все це наближає нашу перемогу над агресором. Перемога складатиметься з суми зусиль, суми ініціатив мільйонів українців. Народний рух на підтримку армії, різнобарвний і неоднорідний, – це черговий приклад неймовірної здатності українського народу до самоорганізації. Це те, що робить вільне суспільне сильнішим за авторитарні режими.
