Село Соколів нині знаходиться у складі Теребовлянського р-ну, Тернопільської області. Як містечко, офіційно згадується в документах XІV ст. За переказами, свого часу цим краєм керував пан, який фанатів від полювання на соколів. Через це захоплення пана, місцеві селяни в якості податку повинні були вирощувати у своїх домогосподарствах соколів. Пізніше, тут функціонувала велика птахівня, а місцевих жителів почали називати сокільниками.
The village of Sokoliv is now part of Terebovlyan district, Ternopil region. It is officially mentioned as a town in documents of the 14th century. According to legend, at one time this region was ruled by a man who was a fan of falcon hunting. Because of this passion, the local peasants had to raise falcons in their households as a tax. Later, a large poultry farm operated here, and local residents began to be called falconers.
У вересні 1915 року тут тримали оборону проти російських військ підрозділи Українських Січових Стрільців. Як і більшість фронтових міст, Соколів зазнав значних руйнувань, а під час Другої світової війни був спалений вщент.
In September 1915, units of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen defended against the Russian troops here. Like most front-line cities, Sokoliv suffered significant destruction, and was burned to the ground during World War II.

Давно це було. Залишились лише перекази, а це, як відомо, не є істиною. Але судячі з описаної кількості задіяних в цій справі, схоже мова йде про полювання на них а не з ними.
