Hello to all the moms and dads here. Life can be busy with work, home, family, and all the responsibilities in between. But take a deep breath and appreciate yourself.
They grow up so fast, so I treasure moments like this with my nieces. I feel truly blessed to be able to spend time with them.
My nieces were bored at home and kept telling me they wanted to go out. They said, Tita, let’s go somewhere fun! Since they didn’t have classes because of an event at school, I decided to take them to the mall. I could see how excited they were even while getting ready. They kept asking me every minute, Are we leaving now? It made me smile because their energy and happiness are contagious. Even though I was tired, I agreed because I know moments like these are precious.
As soon as we arrived at the mall, they were already pulling my hand toward the play area. They didn’t even want to look around, go window shopping, or check any store. They just wanted to play. I told them, “Wait, let’s walk slowly,” but they were too excited. I could see the spark in their eyes when they saw all the colorful rides and the playground full of kids.
While they were playing, I kept thinking if they were not hungry. I asked them, but they said, Later! I guess that’s how kids are when they’re having fun, they forget everything else. It also reminded me of my son before. He never wanted to go home. When I tried to pull him away, he would cry because he still wanted to play.
Watching them play made me feel happy too. That’s what they always want even when they need to pee, they try to ignore it just so they can keep playing.
Before going home, Freya asked if we could walk around the mall first. We didn’t eat there anymore because the food court was crowded and too many people were eating, so they chose to take out Jollibee instead. They thanked me and hugged me tightly. They said, This is the best day ever, and that simple sentence touched my heart so much. Kaila even said, Mama Cell, next time let’s come back here again. Let’s go early so we have more time to play! I just laughed and said, Okay, as long as you do well in school, we can always come back to the mall.
It feels so good to make them happy. For kids, these moments are simple joys, but for me, they are priceless memories. Eya couldn’t hide her happiness she was so excited that she even shared their stories with the other kids about everything they did in the play area. Happiness doesn’t always come from big things sometimes, joy is found in moments when we choose to give our time and presence.
