Greetings my dear moms and dads, also to the grandparents and in general to all those who in one way or another have under their responsibility the care and education of our children and youth.
World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated today, April 2. Among its objectives is to make people aware of autism as a neurodiverse condition and not as a disease or disability, to increase knowledge about autism and to dismantle myths and stigmas associated with this condition.
I am excited to see how much effort has been made in Cuba to promote the social, educational and labor inclusion of autistic people, ensuring that they have equal opportunities and access to the necessary resources and support to develop their potential and actively participate in society.
I was particularly moved by the interview with a young autistic girl, who works as a teacher at the school where she studied her first years, the young woman is a master in special education and expressed herself with great fluency and clarity before the cameras, explaining the importance of understanding and support that these people need to integrate into society.
The integration of people with autism into society is a critical issue that requires a caring, inclusive and respectful approach. People with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) possess unique and valuable abilities that can contribute much to the community if given the right support and understanding.
In this sense, both parents and society as a whole play a crucial role in promoting the inclusion and acceptance of autistic people, I would like to refer to the role that parents play in this process.
First of all, parents should inform themselves about autism so that they can understand the specific needs and challenges of their children and seek professional and community support to provide them with the tools and accompaniment they need.
A common mistake parents often make is to overprotect their children, autistic or not. While it is natural to want to protect children, overprotection can have negative effects on their development and their ability to function independently in society.
Overprotection of autistic children prevents them from developing autonomy and socialization skills, limiting opportunities for learning and growth. It is important to find a balance between providing support and allowing your children to experiment and face challenges in a gradual and guided way, they will be surprised at what they can achieve.
For example, rather than overprotecting an autistic child by avoiding social situations or taking over all tasks, parents can foster independence and self-confidence by providing the child with the tools needed to function in different contexts. This may include teaching communication strategies, social skills, and emotional self-regulation techniques, as well as providing opportunities to practice and strengthen these skills in everyday situations.
Parents should foster the autonomy and independence of their autistic children, encouraging them to develop their abilities and participate in activities that allow them to integrate into society in a positive and meaningful way.
I want to convey my respect and admiration to all parents and professionals who support people with this condition, also to all those in hive who have dedicated much effort to this work, I like and have learned a lot with the work of @parauri and the rest of the members of the community @mundo.autismo.

Saludos mis queridas mamis y papis, también a los abuelos y en general a todos los que de una forma u otra tienen bajo su responsabilidad el cuidado y educación de nuestros niños y jóvenes.
Hoy 2 de abril se celebra El Día Mundial de Concienciación sobre el Autismo , entre sus objetivos esta que las personas visibilicen el autismo como una condición neurodiversa y no como una enfermedad o discapacidad, se busca aumentar el conocimiento sobre el autismo y desmontar mitos y estigmas asociados a esta condición.
A propósito de este día varias son las actividades que se han realizado en Cuba para conmemorarlo, me emociono ver cuánto esfuerzo se ha desplegado en el país promoviendo la inclusión social, educativa y laboral de las personas autistas, garantizando que tengan igualdad de oportunidades y acceso a los recursos y apoyos necesarios para desarrollar su potencial y participar activamente en la sociedad.
En lo particular me emocionó la entrevista realizada a una joven autista, quién se desempeña como profesora en la escuela dónde estudio sus primeros años, la joven es máster en educación especial y se expresó con mucha fluidez y claridad ante las cámaras, explicando la importancia de la comprensión y apoyo que necesitan estas personas para integrarse a la sociedad.
La integración de las personas autistas en la sociedad es un tema fundamental que requiere de un enfoque comprensivo, inclusivo y respetuoso. Las personas con trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) poseen habilidades únicas y valiosas que pueden aportar mucho a la comunidad si se les brinda el apoyo y la comprensión adecuados.
En este sentido, tanto los padres como la sociedad en su conjunto juegan un papel crucial en la promoción de la inclusión y la aceptación de las personas autistas, yo quisiera referirme al rol que juegan los padres, en este proceso.
En primer lugar los padres deben informarse acerca del autismo para que puedan comprender las necesidades y desafíos específicos de sus hijos y así buscar el apoyo profesional y comunitario que les brinden las herramientas y el acompañamiento que estos necesitan.
Un error común que suelen cometer los padres es la sobreprotección de sus hijos, autistas o no. Si bien es natural querer proteger a los hijos, la sobreprotección puede tener efectos negativos en su desarrollo y en su capacidad para desenvolverse de forma independiente en la sociedad.
La sobreprotección de los niños autistas les impide desarrollar habilidades de autonomía y socialización ,limitando las oportunidades de aprendizaje y crecimiento. Es importante encuentrar un equilibrio entre brindar apoyo y permitir que sus niños experimenten y se enfrenten a desafíos de manera gradual y guiada, se sorprenderán de todo lo que pueden lograr.
Por ejemplo, en lugar de sobreproteger a un niño autista evitando situaciones sociales o asumiendo por él todas las tareas, los padres pueden fomentar la independencia y la autoconfianza al proporcionarle las herramientas necesarias para desenvolverse en diferentes contextos. Esto puede incluir enseñarle estrategias de comunicación, habilidades sociales y técnicas de autorregulación emocional, así como brindarle oportunidades para practicar y fortalecer dichas habilidades en situaciones cotidianas.
Los padres deben fomentar la autonomía y la independencia de sus hijos autistas, alentándolos a desarrollar sus habilidades y a participar en actividades que les permitan integrarse en la sociedad de manera positiva y significativa.

It is inspiring to know that people with autism can overcome obstacles and graduate from a profession, I say this because of the story of the young teacher you mention, that leads me to think the fact that our autistic children do not reach their maximum potential in the world of autism is not a reason to believe that they can overcome obstacles.
