Children's sleep is very important for the structure of the baby's body and brain. So it is important to make the child's sleep habits conscious. It's not a matter of letting go of the thought that the baby will fall asleep when he falls asleep. Parents need to make it a habit for their children to sleep at an early age.

For this, the parents have to have a specific plan and have all the preparations to make that plan a reality. In this case, 'trying but not happening' - this means either lack of proper family planning or lack of sufficient initiative.

We parents always want our children to grow up physically and mentally healthy. That's why we don't take care of their food, we give them a variety of nutritious food, we even give them a variety of vitamins. But many times I forget one very important thing - to get proper sleep habits.

I often do not notice whether the child is developing proper sleep habits, whether the child is getting enough sleep. Our parents need to keep in mind that while much of a child's physical and mental development is genetically controlled, his or her hormones and surroundings play a major role in his or her growth.

Now let's see how sleep contributes to the growth of children. Our body has a hormone called Growth Hormone which is a major hormone for our physical and mental development. This hormone is secreted from the pituitary gland of the brain. Proper release of this hormone is very important for the physical development of children.

Growth hormone is secreted the most after sleep at night. Its emission is highest just before midnight (around 11 am) and decreases towards dawn. During this time, when REM (Rapid Eye Movement), that is, deep sleep, occurs, the secretion of this hormone reaches its peak.

It takes us at least two hours to achieve this deep sleep after going to sleep. This means that if a baby goes to bed at 9 o'clock, it will be 11 o'clock at night to reach its REM level when it is time to release its growth hormone. In the morning, the secretion of this growth hormone decreases and the secretion of stress hormone increases.

People who do not secrete this growth hormone at night due to not sleeping at the right time, secrete more of this stress hormone in the morning. As a result, the child has various physical and mental problems. The baby's mood is irritable, and the risk of developing diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc. increases later in life.

So if a parent wants his child to grow up physically healthy, to have a well-formed brain, then children need to develop the habit of going to bed at the right time from a very young age.

How can we make this a habit?

  1. Establish a routine
Get your baby to sleep at the same time every day when the baby is fairly ready for the sleep pattern at a few months of age. Set a schedule for her sleep during the day and night. Hold on to that pattern, even when guests come to the house or have an event, get the baby to sleep at his or her appointed time. Running this way will make this sleep schedule a habit for the baby.

  2. Prepare the baby for sleep before going to bed at night
Engage your child in a variety of physically and mentally challenging activities in or around the evening so that he does not fall asleep during this time. Do not give anything at dinner that makes the child hyperactive. Many bathe the baby with lukewarm water before going to bed.

  3. Create a place to sleep and environment
Prepare the baby's sleeping area and environment about an hour before bedtime. Keep the toy out of the room where the child sleeps out of sight. Turn off the lights and turn on the night light, so that there is no noise or loud noise around. Everyone in the family should stop distracting activities like walking or watching TV at this time before making a habit of sleeping.

  4. Do not hold your baby in your lap in the middle of the night
If your baby wakes up in the middle of the night, don’t hug him or play with him; Instead, he patted her on the back and put her to sleep again.

  5. Clothes and temperature
Comfortable sleeping clothes and bedding are essential for your baby. Make sure the baby does not feel too hot or too cold in these clothes. Use cotton cloth and keep a separate set for sleeping time.

  6. Stories during sleep
When the baby is a little older, you can lie down with the baby and tell him stories. Many people read story books at this time and tell stories to the child. In it the child gets lost in the world of imagination while listening to the story and easily falls asleep.

Parents of a child whose parents failed to develop this habit at an early age and who have become accustomed to a wrong sleep habit need to remember that they will need a lot of time and patience to change this wrong habit. Creating a good habit is much easier than correcting a bad habit.
