It’s Not My Baby, But My Wallet Thinks Otherwise: I May Not Have Much, But I Give What I Can.

Being a mother is tough work. Even though my sister only gave birth to my nephew six months ago, I can already see how challenging motherhood truly is. I may not have experienced it myself, but I can tell it’s one of the hardest and most selfless roles in the world.

That’s why, for now, being a mother isn’t part of my dream. I’m still scared of the idea of motherhood—there are just so many things to consider. I’m not even sure if I could be a good mother someday because I’m afraid I won’t be able to give my child everything they need and deserve.

For now, let me just be an aunt—a Tita—who gives whatever she can to her nephew. I may not have a stable job, but ever since he was born, I’ve been doing my best to help my sister with her son, since she’s a single parent. And even though my relationship with my sister isn’t always good, I’m not the kind of person who drags a child into my personal grudges.

Recently, I noticed that my nephew doesn't have enough clothes that can fit him now. My nephew is 6 months old now, and the last time I bought him clothes was when he was 3 months old, and those clothes can only fit him until he reaches 6 months.

One thing I’ve learned from my acquaintances whenever I ask for advice about buying baby clothes is to always choose a larger size than the baby’s current age. For example, my nephew is now 6 months old, and in baby clothing sizes, you’ll usually see 0–3, 3–6, 6–9, 9–12, and 12–18 months. I always go for the 9–12 month size so he can use the clothes longer—because babies grow so fast!

My mistake the second time I bought him clothes when he was still in between of 3-6 months old was ordering from a TikTok shop. I thought their sizes were accurate since they listed 80 cm and 90 cm, which I assumed would fit a 6–9-month-old. But when the clothes arrived, the matching shirt and shorts only fit him up until he was 6 months old!

While scrolling through my TikTok FYP, I came across some moms doing live selling. They were selling SHEIN from those “per sack” bales — you know, the ones where they sell items at much cheaper prices than the original.

I bought him two pairs of terno t-shirt and shorts, but honestly, I’m still not sure what those first two clothes on the left side are. 😅 I also got him a jacket so he can wear it whenever they go out, especially if the weather is cold, and one new pair of shorts that he can easily match with any of his shirts. These clothes should fit him perfectly from now, at 6 months, until he turns 12 months.

Another brand I’ve been eyeing for a while is Looms for Baby. I always see this brand on Lazada, and I’ve been wishing to buy a pair for my nephew once he turns 9 months to 1 year old. But honestly, I couldn’t afford it before since their prices range from ₱300 to ₱500 per pair, depending on the design.

One day, while scrolling through my TikTok FYP, I came across their official shop doing a live selling — and I was amazed! The price range was only ₱150 to ₱250, also depending on the design. I got curious, so I asked the seller why the prices were cheaper than their official store on other apps. They explained that the clothes are still brand new, but the ones they sell during live streams are old stocks.

Of course, I decided to try ordering — and when my parcel arrived, I was so satisfied! The clothes looked completely new with no issues at all. I was really happy because I finally got to buy my nephew a nice pair of clothes he can wear when going out. Those clothes are sized for 9–12 months old, so he’ll be able to wear them until he reached 12 months.

Doing this kind of thing was never really part of my plan. I know I should be selfish sometimes — to focus more on myself and my own needs. But what can I do? Every time I see my nephew without nice clothes to wear when he goes out, I can’t help but feel sad, especially when I see other kids dressed so cutely. Deep inside, I also feel a bit mad at my sister because she knows her child doesn’t have enough clothes right now, yet she doesn’t seem to do anything about it. But oh well… being a single parent is really tough. She has a lot of priorities to think about, and her budget usually goes to the more important things—like diapers, milk, and even mineral water for her child. Anyway, I am excited to see my nephew wear these clothes that I bought for him, just like what he usually does when I buy him some clothes, which I did 3 months ago. Even if I am just his Tita, I feel like I am also his second mother. Hihi 🥰♥️

Children grow very quickly, you should always buy sizes larger than their age. I recommend buying sizes from 12 to 18 months so they don't lose them so quickly.
Continue your work as an aunt until you feel ready to have children of your own. The clothes are very pretty. I hope they fit your nephew very well and he looks handsome.

Such a sweet and thoughtful story! Your nephew is lucky to have a caring and generous tita lie you. Its nice to see how much effort you put into helping you sister and making sure your nephew has what he needs. 😍
