Hi Hivers, especially the #fungilovers community. if you are walking in the middle of the forest and accidentally find a fungus that grows on the body of a rotting log or tree, it has the characteristics of overlapping shelves. This means that you are dealing with a type of fungus Stereoum or some members of the Trametes genus Bjercandera adusta.

These hats range from downy to hairy in glossy colors. This species is often found on rotting wood. Bjercandera fumosa is similar; the flesh has a dark stripe near the bottom of the tube.
This type of fungus can be used to synthesize textile dyes, there is research interest to study fungi that can be used for bioremediation.
There are also studies showing that it can remove the color of synthetic melanin. This feature allows Bjerkandera adusta to be used for melanin discoloration in future cosmetic applications.
