A thick, white blanket of snow covered the winter forest. It immediately became more beautiful, and the species of mushrooms contrasting with the white were easier to see. When I was walking past several trunks lying on the ground, I immediately noticed orange and brown mushrooms growing on them.
Gruba, biała kołdra śniegu okryła zimowy las. Od razu zrobiło się piękniej, a kontrastujące z bielą gatunki grzybów dało się łatwiej dostrzec. Gdy spacerując przechodziłam obok kilku pni leżących na ziemi od razu dostrzegłam rosnące na nich pomarańczowe i brązowe grzyby.
I asked a group of mushroom pickers what species these might be, and they said the dark brown mushrooms are probably young smoky bracket (Bjerkandera adusta)and the orange ones are probably the false turkey tail, also called hairy curtain crus (Stereum hirsutum).
Zapytałam na grupie grzybiarzy, jakie to mogą być gatunki grzybów i powiedzieli, że ciemno brązowe grzyby to prawdopodobnie młoda szaroporka podpalana, a pomarańczowe to skórnik szorstki.
The orange fungus gives the impression that scrambled eggs are growing on the tree trunk ;) Unfortunately, it is not edible and severely damages the tree on which it grows. The brown fungus in some people can cause a cough that is difficult to treat.
Pomarańczowy grzyb sprawia wrażenie, jakby na pniu drzewa rosła jajecznica ;) Niestety nie jest jadalny i mocno niszczy drzewo, na którym rośnie. Brązowy grzyb u niektórych ludzi może wywoływać kaszel, który trudno się leczy.
It is a pity that these mushrooms cannot be food for animals or for people, since they grow all year round. They would be a nice treat, and only please the eye with their appearance.
Szkoda, że te grzyby nie mogą być pokarmem dla zwierząt, albo dla ludzi skoro rosną przez cały rok. Byłyby fajnym smakołykiem, a tak tylko cieszą oko swoim wyglądem.

oh, and I guess those mushrooms can be a food, after all, -- but not very fast, not in the nearest future! ;)
