Fungi Friday - A Few Finds from the Archive

Here are a few fungi finds from my archive for this #fungifriday by @ewkaw

Here is some rusty grayish Turkey Tail, I wonder if it is high in iron...

Here is a large amanita looking mushroom I found outside a campground in Michigan.

Here are a couple Clitocybe nuda aka wood blewits. These are edible but the stem is so tough you can only eat the cap. You also need to test and see if they have white spores as there is a toxic lookalike that has rusty spores.

Here is a nice spring mushroom, aka mica caps.

These mica caps aren't the greatest of edible mushroom but they can be used in a soup. One side effect is if you eat then then drink alcohol then you will get sick as there is a chemical that doesn't mix well with alcohol in them.

Another spring find, here are a bunch of mycena mushrooms.

Now for some amber jelly roll aka exidia recisa. This can be found all year around after a rain. I tend to find it on broken hardwood branches.

Amber jelly roll works really well in soup with spices.

Here are some Lycoperdon perlatum aka gem studded puffball. I find these in fall and these are edible so long as the inside is solid white.

Here are some pear shaped puffball mushrooms. These are edible as well but you need to peel off the outer layer after soaking them for a while.

And more pear shaped puffballs, they are plentiful around here in fall.

That's all for this #fungifriday :-)

Sort:

Those purple ones are so cool! Very disproportional :)

Yeah all stem and no cap, then the cap is the only edible part.

These are really great photos!

Thanks, I keep finding new ones off my old phone.

Mushrooms are pretty and cool ... especially those that are round in shape very much like a bun.

They are perfect once you peel of the skin, nice deep flavor with a good texture.
