Here's a bright orange mushroom for #mushroommonday by @balticbadger

I found this polypore growing on some cut branches.

You can see this from quite a distance away.

This mushroom can be found around the world. The only uses I have read about are by Aboriginees in Australia using it to cure mouth sores. I have also read that it can be used in paper production to break down tough parts of the wood before milling it into paper. It contains lignolytic enzymes that are extracted for industrial use in paper production and even transforming aromatic compounds in plants for various scents.

For a general forager like me it just looks cool. It is way too tough to eat and medicinal uses aren't proven.

I also found some kind of weird slime mold growing on some charcoal. Burnt wood in the forest usually has some kind of fungi growing on it. I suspect this might be the start of some raspberry slime mold. That's it for this #mushroommonday
Ohhhh! Raspberry slime mold!!! Sounds utterly gross!!! I gotta see it! :) You have a serious fungus problem in that forest! LOL
I am a forager. I appreciate some good fungus. :)
Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day to you too. Raspberry slime mold is pretty gross, but the slugs and snails love it, making it even grosser.
Lol.
haha, I totally agree with you on this, Denis. well-said. but I have no objections as we are benefitting with great pics from it!

Thansk @porters :-)
an interesting type of mushroom. the colors are very vivid. I have never seen such a mushroom before. successful photo shoots and beautiful expression. congratulations.
I need to research how to extract the enzyme in it that is used for paper and perfume production.
You captured some bright colored mushrooms. Amazing the medicinal properties in them.
I suspect the medicinal properties are just placebo. So far no peer review studies have been done on them like with turkeytail or lion's mane.
but the lignin-destroying ensimes is definitely a real deal!
