After a few well-overdue rains and the subsequent humid spell that has cast itself over my portion of the United States, many of the local summer fungi have been presented with practically perfect fruiting conditions. Over the weekend, I took the opportunity to visit a few local forests that I had not yet had the chance to explore to see what fungal diversity I could uncover. I was not disappointed.
The warm, humid weather brought forth, not only the fungi, but all things slimy in the forest as well: slime molds, mollusks and more. Below are a few images of the various slimy critters and creatures that I came across while on my walks over the previous few days.
I've done my best to offer species IDs for each organism, but I welcome your suggestions if you believe that I had misidentified anything! There are a few fungal species as well as one organism that I assume to be a slime mold that I was unable to find identifications for. Any help for these organisms in particular would be greatly appreciated!
