I think the world needs to return to a more generalized arena and move away from the specialization arena, so if I was an employer I would look for the 75% of 5 skills verse the 90% of one skill. Yes there are always going to be the need for highly skilled people, but we should not ignore those that have the ability to jump from one topic to another, or to see the outcome of multiple possibilities because they have some knowledge of how things are coming together.

The specialist may know the outcome of his/their project, but not how it is going to fit in with the final product. The project manager, who needs to know if the specialist parts are all going to fit together, needs to have some general knowledge in multiple fields.

I do think that this is happening more now - unless really specialized skills are needed. The reason is, the jobs themselves are diverse in task, so the people have to have a range, or are largely useless.
