The Power of Meditation and Journaling
Part 2: Journaling
As promised, here is part two, Journaling.
Why didn’t I write them all together in one blog content? Because I wanted to emphasize that Journaling and Meditation come with different approaches yet share a common goal. Peace of Mind and improved Mental Health.
Both topics are worth reading and writing about. Besides, it will make the content too long to read. The objective here is to absorb what was read and learned.
About Journaling
This photo above shows the journals and letters I've kept from the past years. Journaling doesn't mean you have to write your thoughts in just one notebook and is not just about keeping records of your experiences but a way to express your emotions and thoughts. It is your outlet to release what’s in your head and heart. Whether you are writing about your sadness or what you are currently grateful for.
What is Journaling?
Journaling is like writing in your diary. But for me, Journaling is more than just keeping records of your life events.
Suppose meditation allows you to take a break from many thoughts in your head. Journaling helps you unload all about what you are thinking or feeling, where it is your best platform to express yourself without anyone judging you. If there are circumstances or people in your life constantly making your chest tight, and you are not sure how to deal with them. Journaling is one of the best resorts to express and let go of what is killing you inside. But this doesn’t mean that writing them down will resolve the matters for you. You still have to take action to rectify the problem. Unloading your emotions on your journals will help you internalize and understand the situation or gain wisdom.
The idea of Journaling may sound simple, but it's worth practicing. Some think you have to allocate a specific amount of time or that you must be writing in it religiously, not a day missed. And the most misconception is that it takes so much energy to write, keep, and maintain.
Why is Journaling helpful?
Journaling is helpful in so many ways. Here's why:
- It allows you to internalize what is happening or going on in your life.
- When you write it all down, you get to see every angle of your thoughts or situations and understand them from a different perspective.
- There is no need to filter or sugarcoat your words if this journal is for your eyes only.
- If words have to come out like telling somebody they are important to you, you will want to let them know before it's too late. But if you're going to throw profanities at someone you cannot dare to do in person, then have at it, let all your anger out in your journal.
- Journaling allows you to talk to your inner self or even write yourself a letter.
- No one or in this case, nothing else is a better listener but your Journal because they don't talk back and tell you that you are stupid for feeling what you feel. As I first mentioned, no one will judge you here but you.
- It plays a big part in any recovery from heartbreaks, grief, or anxiety.
- Overall, it is one of the best help for Mental Health.
The other benefit of Journaling they didn’t mention
It improves your writing skills, it might not seem evident at first, but you will get better with your writing in the long run. You can construct sentences easily with good grammar and enhance quick- thinking, and you get more creative and express what you write accurately.
If journaling is simple, why is not everyone doing it?
- They think journaling is a responsibility that you have to write every day at a specific time of the day.
- You need to be good at writing journals: perfect grammar and plenty of vocabulary.
- They struggle with what to write because of the thinking that you just have to write anything. But that "anything" turns to nothing.
Simple Ways on How to Journal
Journaling doesn't have to be complicated.
- Choose a notebook as your Journal. It doesn’t need to be fancy.
- If you are unsure what to write, especially what you have in your mind is confusing, or you feel overwhelmed. You can doodle, sketch, or cut photos from magazines. Or simply write what you are grateful for.
- Journal your way, anywhere and anytime you feel. My favorite area to journal and meditate aside from my fortress of solitude at home is at the beach. The sound of the ocean waves and the misty breeze just feels comforting.
- Try reading your journal every week and you will be able to see if you are stuck or running in circles in your daily life. You will be able to see what area in your life that you need to change or improve.
Who can benefit from Journaling?
Just like with meditation, all of us can benefit from it. Journaling and meditation come with more good than bad. I could not think of why writing in journals and meditating are bad for you.
Hey there! Thank you for reading my Journaling content. I hope you've got some takeaways with you from this post that you can start implementing in your life.
Please feel free to share your thoughts. See ya! 😍
My message to you, my dear.😘
Never limit yourself to the good things you can have in life. Suppose you feel stuck right now and lost in what you want to do. Find the kind of kickstart that you need to move forward.
Imagine this.
YOU HAVE THE POWER TO REWRITE YOUR OWN LIFE STORY AND CARVE YOUR SCULPTURE.
Figuratively speaking, all you need is a pen and a notebook to rewrite your story and a sharp chisel to carve your life sculpture. What you just have to do is, pick them up and start working on yourself.
And before you know it.
YOU WILL BE IN AWE AT YOUR VERY OWN MASTERPIECE.
My heart is full of appreciation.🤗
