As you say, self-love is sometimes confused with egocentrism which are not the same. The latter doesn't want to recognize the needs or opinions of others. I think that people who let egocentrism dominate them seek to satisfy just their own desires and defend only their own perspective, maybe even without being aware of that. It is probably more pronounced in infancy, as adults we try to see things from a more mature angle. Well, we try at least 😅
