"Don't trust anyone", the typical phrase that our worried parents tell us throughout our adolescence and part of our adulthood. It is a piece of advice to which I did not make much sense, because if we do not deal with strangers we will never meet people. But I must say that such cliché advice is very wise, we should never turn our backs on anyone, we will never know what their dark heart hides, I once read there "even the finest and most beautiful appearances hide a river of perversion and evil" , starting from this I present to you Charles Sobhraj.
This man seemed to be a friendly merchant, besides he helped hippies who wanted to continue traveling, but he was looking for a serial killer who acted stealthily, as well as a snake. Through his eloquence he attracted young travelers, full of dreams and hopes, he murdered them and stripped them of their belongings, he also stole his identity.
“No confíes en nadie”, la típica frase que nos dicen nuestros preocupados padres a lo largo de nuestra adolescencia y parte de nuestra adultez. Es un consejo al cual no le conseguía mucho sentido, porque si no tratamos con desconocidos jamás conoceremos personas. Pero debo decir que ese consejo tan cliché es muy sabio, jamás deberíamos darle la espalda a ninguna persona, nunca sabremos que esconde su oscuro corazón, una vez leí por allí “hasta las más finas y hermosas apariencias esconden un río de perversión y maldad”, partiendo de esto les presento a Charles Sobhraj.
Este hombre parecía ser un comerciante amable, además que ayudaba a los hippies que querían seguir viajando, pero se trataba de un asesino en serie que actuaba sigilosamente, así como una serpiente. Por medio de su elocuencia atraía viajeros jóvenes, llenos de sueños y esperanzas, los asesinaba y los despojaba de sus pertenencias, también robaba su identidad.

This happened in the 1970s, where this type of crime was not widely heard, it was something out of the ordinary. That is why these people trusted Charles and his beautiful girlfriend. His way of acting was drugging his victims, he scammed them, he took everything from them, so he collected a fortune. But what he did not know is that he was already leaving clues in each of his misdeeds and a Dutch diplomat began to follow them.
Charles was a manipulative person, he could play with the brain of someone weak like Marie, who got wrapped up in that wicked world and from which he could never get out. This was something he regretted at the end of the series, but when you do evil, your life will have consequences, even if you get on your knees, it is difficult to repair something, let alone the death of innocents. Unlike Charles who was a narcissist all his life and never showed regret, he rather took advantage of all this, becoming popular through his mischief.
Trabajaba junto a su novia Marie-Andrée Leclerc y su cómplice, Ajay Chowdhury. Esto ocurrió en la década de los 70’, donde este tipo de crímenes no eran muy escuchados, era algo fuera de los normal. Es por ello que estas personas confiaban en Charles y su hermosa novia. Su forma de actuar era drogando a sus víctimas, las estafaba les quitaba todo, así él reunió una fortuna. Pero lo que no sabía es que ya dejaba pistas en cada uno de sus fechorías y un diplomático holandés empezó a seguirlas.
Charles era una persona manipuladora, podía jugar con el cerebro de alguien débil como lo era Marie, quien se dejó envolver por ese mundo perverso y del cual jamás pudo salir. Esto fue algo de lo que se arrepintió al finalizar la serie, pero cuando haces el mal tu vida tendrá consecuencias, así te hinques de rodillas, es difícil reparar algo y menos la muerte de inocentes. A diferencia de Charles quien fue un narcisista toda su vida y jamás demostró arrepentimiento, más bien sacó provecho de todo esto, haciéndose popular por medio de sus maldades.
Esta miniserie me pareció muy buena y es del género que me gusta a mí. Es una realidad que pasaba en aquellos años durante mucho tiempo, era difícil acusar a estos criminales por falta de pruebas, si hoy con la tecnología tan avanzada se hace complicado no me quiero imaginar por aquellos años. Es por ello que no le podemos dar la espalda a cualquier persona, y lo sé estas series nos dejan un poco paranoicos, pero son hechos de la vida real.
