Many people don’t realize that Chapelle isn’t really doing comedy. His topics are usually quite deep. I believe that he wraps serious messages in comedy in attempt to get people to listen.
I believe that it was Chapelle show 2 or 3 that really highlighted the deep content in Dave Chapelle’s acts.
I have a hard time watching his work if I’m not in the mood to go down a rabbit hole.
Chappelle does mix his comedy with social subjects, especially during his show. You are correct about that, but it is still some of the best comedy in my opinion. I wouldn't say he's not doing comedy.
