Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well, this has been quite a long month, yesterday I decided to relax and I found this movie called: Lansky.
I am going to confess that when I decided to watch it I did not see the trailer or the reviews, so I did not know very well what it was about.

Hola a todos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, este ha sido un mes bastante largo, el día de ayer decidí darme un relax y encontré está película llamada: Lansky.
Les voy a confesar que cuándo decidí verla no vi el tráiler ni las críticas, por lo tanto no sabía muy bien de que trataba.
In case you don't know, this movie is based on the true story of someone named: Meyer Lansky.
I will try not to make too many spoilers so that when you read the review you can enjoy the movie, however being a biography I have to talk with little about him.
Meyer Lansky was one of the most important and influential mobsters in recent times, recognized for his agile mathematical mind, he was part of the national organized crime syndicate for some years, but his most important role was as head of operations in casinos and gambling.
Directed by Eytan Rockaway, who shows us a panorama that perhaps we have already seen in other adaptations referring to the world of the mafia, gangsters and influential criminals. The problem is that despite being a film that gives us information about American history, perhaps the subject has been burned by other films, which makes us see the film in certain parts as something more of the same, without denying that the performance of Harvey Keitel has seemed impeccable, especially for some phrases that still resonate in my head as: "If you lose your money, you lose nothing. If you lose your health, you lose something. If you lose your character, you lose everything" which portrayed the character equally well.
Por si no lo saben está película está basada en la historia real de alguien llamado: Meyer Lansky.
Intentaré no hacer mucho spoiler para que al leer la reseña puedan disfrutar la película, sin embargo al ser una biografía tengo que hablar con poco de él.
Meyer Lansky fue uno de los mafiosos más importantes e influyentes en los últimos tiempos, reconocido por su ágil mente matemática, formó parte del sindicato nacional del crimen organizado durante algunos años, pero su papel más importante fue como jefe de operaciones en casinos y juegos de azar.
Dirigida por Eytan Rockaway, quién nos muestra un panorama que quizás ya hemos visto en otras adaptaciones referentes al mundo de la mafia, gánsters y criminales influyentes. El problema es que a pesar de ser una película que nos brinda información sobre la historia estadounidense, quizás el tema ha sido muy quemado por otros films, lo que nos hace ver la película en ciertas partes como algo más de lo mismo, sin negar que la actuación de Harvey Keitel me ha parecido impecable, sobre todo por algunas frases que aún resuenan en mi cabeza como: "Si pierdes tu dinero, no pierdes nada. Si pierdes tu salud, pierdes algo. Si pierdes tu carácter, lo pierdes todo" que ha retratado igual al personaje.
At the beginning of the film we meet David Stone, a bankrupt writer who after a few years seeks to write a book that will bring him back to fame after failed attempts to improve the quality of life of his family.
However, he inadvertently begins to fall into investigations from years before involving Lansky, which partly damages his work but eventually picks up again without problems.
The world of the mafia has diverse panoramas, we can see it as a life full of corruption, impunity and blood, and at the same time see the most fragile part of a gangster as it is the family in a way.
Despite the power and his attempts to keep ambition and family in the same place, ambition seems to leave no room for anything else, leaving aside what for many is usually more important. We do not know if after all, what brought consequences to his life was pride itself or the lack of scruples to commit heinous crimes.
After all, there is only one thing that money does not buy, and that is how to completely get rid of loneliness, find genuine and loyal love. Staying for a long time next to a dangerous person is a hard thing to find.
Al comienzo de la película nos encontramos con David Stone, un escritor en bancarrota que después de algunos años busca escribir un libro que lo lleve a la fama nuevamente después de intentos fallidos por mejorar la calidad de vida de su familia.
Sin embargo, sin darse cuenta empieza a caer en investigaciones de años atrás que involucran a Lansky, lo que perjudica en parte su trabajo pero con el tiempo vuelve a retomar sin problemas.
El mundo de la mafia tiene diversos panoramas, lo podemos ver como una vida llena de corrupción, impunidad y sangre, y al mismo tiempo ver la parte más frágil de un gánster como lo es la familia en cierto modo.
A pesar del poder y sus intentos de mantener la ambición y la familia en el mismo lugar, la ambición parece no dejar lugar para nada más, dejando de lado lo que para muchos suele ser más importante. No sabemos si después de todo, lo que le trajo consecuencias a su vida fue el mismo orgullo o la falta de escrúpulos para cometer crímenes atroces.
Después de todo, sólo hay algo que el dinero no compra, y es la forma de deshacerse por completo de la soledad, encontrar amor genuino y leal. Permanecer mucho tiempo al lado de una persona peligrosa es algo dificil de encontrar.
When I started watching it my first impression was quite interesting, it is a film that follows the order of events without losing coherence. The way the facts are narrated is quite precise and specific. We are clear that Lansky was a dangerous person for a long time, to think that you could get away with his game is something that clearly was not going to come out victorious.
A person loyal to numbers, where the mind is in constant motion imagining probabilities and business, is the same mind that can easily calculate and find out who dares to cheat him. Cheating him is something that during the years of activism was not very well seen, the mafia couple he made with Ben Siegel did not allow it at any time.
For some years Lansky collaborated with the U.S. government in Operation Underworld in search of Nazi infiltrators and saboteurs deployed by the U-Boots. Much later it was discovered that he indeed played a very important role but that he was never recognized by the government high command because of his involvement in shady dealings.
Cuando comencé a verla mi primera impresión fue bastante interesante, es una película que sigue el orden de los hechos sin perder la coherencia. La manera en que se narran los hechos, es bastante precisa y especifica. Tenemos claro que Lansky fue una persona peligrosa durante mucho tiempo, pensar que podías salir impune de su juego es algo que claramente no iba a salir victorioso.
Una persona leal a los números, dónde la mente está en constante movimiento imaginando probabilidades y negocios, es la misma mente que puede calcular y encontrar fácilmente a quién se atreva a engañarlo. Engañarlo es algo que durante los años de activismo no fue muy bien visto, la pareja de la mafia que hacía con Ben Siegel no lo permitía en ningún momento.
Durante algunos años Lansky colaboró con el gobierno de Estados Unidos en la Operación Underworld en búsqueda de infiltrados nazis y saboteadores desplegados por los U-Boot. Mucho tiempo después se descubrió que efectivamente jugó un papel muy importante pero que nunca fue reconocido por los altos mandos del gobierno por su relación en negocios oscuros.
In my personal opinion Lansky is a film that despite being quite interesting, in some parts it lacks more emotion, I imagine that the film refers a little more to an autobiographical context, many of the scenes are quite referring to how gangsters handle business, how they lead their lives full of money and luxuries, other parts show the true ingenuity of Meyer to make a money laundering professionally, how to hide the clues and bills under commercial funds using tax havens to evade taxes.
It's a well crafted film, perhaps not one of the best I've seen but it gets the job done and comes close to resembling popular sagas like the Godfather, among others. It's a movie that you can follow the thread without seeming vaguely boring or tiresome, but you can easily watch it in the comfort of a couch, your bed or with family and popcorn, so if you are interested in movies about history and general American culture it's a good plan to consider.
En mi opinión personal Lansky es una película que a pesar de ser bastante interesante, en algunas partes le falta más emoción, me imagino que el film se refiere un poco más a un contexto autobiográfico, muchas de las escenas son bastante referentes a cómo manejan los negocios los gánsteres, a cómo llevan su vida llena de dinero y lujos, otras partes muestran el ingenio verdadero de Meyer para hacer un lavado de dinero profesionalmente, como esconder las pistas y los billetes bajo fondos comerciales usando paraísos fiscales para evadir impuestos.
Es una película bien elaborada, quizás no sea de las mejores que haya visto pero logra su cometido llegando a parecerse a sagas populares como el Padrino, entre otras. Es una película que te haya seguirle el hilo sin parecer vagamente aburrido o cansón, pero que fácilmente la puedes ver en la comodidad de un sofá, tú cama o con familiares y palomitas, así que si les interesa las películas de historia y cultura general estadounidense es un buen plan a considerar.
