Reacher TV Series Review

in Movies & TV Showslast year (edited)

Greetings, friends. Today I will tell you about Reacher, a series that I watched 8 episodes in 2 days and... I can't say that I liked it very much. I would give it 7/10.

Plot

The plot is simply this, an ex-soldier mistakes himself for the law and starts hunting outlaws using his talents and skills. After an incident, he becomes a criminal and is thrown into prison. Then he has to go after a very big organization trying to solve the case. Meanwhile, he's attracted to a woman. So... Very ordinary. Yes, I know there are movies of Jack Reacher, and believe me, this 8-part series is 8 hours, 1 hour each... and actually it could have been done in 3 hours. Let's say 4 hours to connect with the characters and make it effective. Anything more was really boring and felt like a waste of time.

Similar TV series

  • Dexter: One of the main problems with the show is that it feels unoriginal. If you've seen the Dexter series before this, you'll see how similar it is. There we were watching a person ethically hunting bad guys, and here we're watching a person ethically hunting bad guys.

  • Sherlock: Reacher somehow predicts everything perfectly. He understands who thinks and how they think. Sometimes they expect us to believe ridiculously detailed things without any solid evidence. There was a series that did it in a much more beautiful and convincing way, based on solid evidence. Sherlock. Hence.... not so good Reacher...

What I Like About the Show

Fluency: There is a fluency in the show. When the end of the episode comes, you want to watch the next episode. Unlike some other series, you don't get bored while watching the episodes. But I think episodes 6 and 7 could have been 10-20 minutes shorter. Still, the series flows well in terms of fluency.

Action: Of course, as you can see from the trailer above, the series is full of action. Almost every episode has an action scene. Someone is fighting. The fights are well choreographed and enjoyable to watch. Yes, it is possible to say that there are still realistic fights, although sometimes too many camera angles are cut, although not ten out of ten.

Character Development: Two characters that we can define as simple at the beginning of the series develop very well. Well, except Reacher. He doesn't reveal himself much until the last episode. We get to know Roscoe Conklin, played by Willa Fitzgerald, through what happens to him and his reactions. Also It is also possible to say that the character of Malcolm Goodwin, played by Oscar Finlay, has evolved from the beginning to the end of the series. It's a pleasure to see how deep he is, why he lives here, why he behaves the way he does and how deep he gets as he shares things about his past.
I think they portrayed these characters well. These are just a few characters. It was good to get to know the characters of many policemen, including Mosley the barber.

What I Didn't Like About the Show

  • Fake Detective Work: We know that he is a very good soldier and works in a special squad. We know that he goes on undercover missions to go somewhere and get information from there. We know that he has received training to understand how people think and that he has caught many people before. But we don't see any of his failures like SUPERHERO in this movie. He is late for some things, yes. But again, the things he says or the predictions he makes turn out to be TRUE. This is a very cheap scenario. Since we never see him fail, we think he will solve the problem anyway.
    There is no excitement.

  • Oh What a Big Guy: Being told at the beginning of the show that there were no prison clothes big enough for him... in a country like America where there's a lot of obesity or bodybuilders. When he's walking down the street and people keep turning to look at him. Yes, when we see someone tall and muscular, we turn and look. They are handsome, usually. But it's always like, "Oh, my God, he's so tall. - "giant of a man - "a giant like you - Because of the characters who made ridiculous comments like "if a huge giant man walks on the street, he will attract attention", it was uncomfortable to watch them SAY again and again and again and again... that he was big! You can already make you feel that the man is big by SHOWING it. We can see that.
For example, in the Punisher movies, this was done perfectly. Ray Stevenson or Thomas Jane's Punisher movies were also great in this regard. It would have been better to show something instead of constantly telling the audience about it.

In Conclusion

If you want to watch this series, I would like to say that it does not have an extremely deep story. The mystery is not very deep and predictable. Especially halfway through the season it is possible to figure out who is who, and who is the bad guy. It's not an emotional series.
It's an action and detective work. It's a bit like a superhero show because our main character is always right.
In terms of fluency, it is enjoyable and can be watched quickly.
It is not boring.
It's an enjoyable series. I think it is 7/10 in general.

Thank you so much for reading!

For someone who doesn't know the books the series are based from this is probably as good a review as it could get.
Some of the things you point out as issues blew right past me because I've read all the books and so have the internal knowledge of Reacher's background, and processes.

For me the actor was a bit young, but that was more acceptable than the films having Tom Cruise play the character. I couldn't bring myself to watch them due to the height disparity between the character and the actor.

Yeah, I do not know about the books... But it is okay, I enjoyed watching it 😁

No prison clothes will fit him.. hahaha. Dude is pretty big but he isn't that big. I think that he would actually look kind of small next to a lot of people that really are in prison.

Yeah, it was really annoying. Just... Stop saying that! We can already see ahahaha 😁😁
